We went to eat there 2 times in the first days as arriving in Nepal. We loved at first sight and the food and the little shop was awesome. The Staff was super kind and friendly, the customers were quiet and respectful .So seeing that , exclusively the day 15/07 it would give 10 stars for their whole project.
Today we went there excited to try new things and as we arrived there and the vibe was different, 2 men drinking coffee and speaking very loud were making that previous day joyful experience to vanish, and later on 2 other girls were also speaking very loud on the other corner of the space. I thought that nepalese people would be more kind and quiet in these kind of spaces, after spending 3 months in India ahha but I could also see the excitement to express and shameless to be HEARD. I am not against people expressing themselves, but in closed spaces, small cafes and restaurants i believe is precious to be free of noise/material/smoke pollution ambient.
I am very sensitive to noise and I was shaking to eat my food because of that. I had to rush to finish it and it didnt make me feel good, I like to eat with mindfulness, appreciating and feeling the food, but these people were disturbing me very much.
After I finished (as I just want to do it and leave the space) I turned out to ask this man if he was the owner, because with such "dominance" of the space, I assumed he could've been..so yeah, he was the owner..but i dont think he understood English very well to listen to what I was saying for quietness and to be polite in a space where people want to eat. So from that experience I would give a 1 star. The food today unfortunately was not so good as the day before. Had less flavor than the other dish and the banana shake was quite bland, nothing to compare to the great Mango Lassi I had the day before. I feel even sad to write this review. Because the girls working there were very kind and I really loved the first experience.
Still I believe in forgiveness and compassion, so I highly recommend to go eat there, the Buddha Bowl was super good and the Ananda plate or something like that with fried cubes of tofu and the dal soup was super special. REALLY good!
Again if the owner would've been quiet and express respect for my needs. Would be different.but he didn't apologize for it. Maybe the language barrier, who knows. He reminds my dad so... working in customer service for more than 20 years, this review is to bring awareness to him to make some changes, we all can do better as i am doing my best to share that this place has a fantastic initiative, that if certain humans respect the noise we would have a peaceful world.
Once again..this review would've been 5 starts if I never met those loud speaker men, this is my personal review. Others might not be so sensitive. And to express firmly, he wasn't rude to me, but he didnt apologize for his loudness.
In the end it was just a bad hour for me to go eat there.
Big hug and good luck.
Wishing the restaurant all the best.
This is one of my favorite cafés in Kathmandu! I came here a lot, when I was working for a couple of weeks in KTM. Make sure you try their buckwheat pancakes, tibetan tea, and beetrot tsampa smoothie/special smoothie bowl. The staff is always super friendly, there is a calm atmosphere, great books to read on the shelves, and a cute sortiment of handicrafts for sale.
Unfortunately l only have it 3stars and those 3 stars are for the veg/fruit juice.
Hopeless service
Wait 10 minutes after walking in the door and you can hear when someone walks in the door. Sat down as a 1st timer and only one other person in the cafe/restuarant. then l had to go into the kitchen and get staff. They were just talking and eating and when l approached one of the lady’s and asked if l could get service the lady just looked at me as she forgot she was working in a cafe 🙄.
After the other lady came out and gave me a menu (without any energy or welcoming vibe what so ever l quietly asked if l can get a fresh apple, carrot, beetroot and ginger juice. There was a lot of confusion about adding the ginger 🤯….What is going on here. I nearly just walked out then as the cafe had no air flow, service was almost obsolete though l persisted and ordered.
I was waiting for 20 mins for one small juice and there was only 1 other person which had already finished meal
Then the juice sat on counter for several minutes after coming from the kitchen out the back while she starting making a tea for the other man.
If you don’t want to work or serve people with a smile then please find another way because hospitality is not for you.
Also if this is not your own business then l really feel for the owner of this establishment. Times are hard all over the world especially Nepal.
It’s very still inside
Lovely location to stay in Kathmandu! Positive background, amazing staff, helpfull owners! Feels like home as well. Great atmosphere because of the people who are working there. I can totally recommend!
