If you tell your clients right after they order something that they cannot use their laptop (I came at 14:30 in the afternoon so it was only a couple of hours I was also planning to order something to eat) and you pressure them to leave, you make them feel uncomfortable, then your not being reasonable you’re just lacking sense of logic. You are a coffee branch who advertises about people being able to come, drink a coffee chill and work, you’re not a restaurant chain. Not my fault that you give false messages.
My favorite cafe in Leiden!
The first floor has a cozy sit down area with some children’s toys stacked away neatly on the shelf.
The second floor is seating for smaller groups and the third floor offers a large table and studying “laptop area” (they have designated laptop times on their tables upstairs, so make sure you check before settling in to read or study!
Outdoor seating is available out back and smaller area up front! The area out back has umbrellas so you can avoid the dutchie downpours that frequently occur!
I come every weekend to get some coffee and have some “me time” and they are consistently friendly, helpful and kind!
Perfect place. Delicious food. The employees are very friendly. They receive all payment methods. In week days you can use to laptop, in weekend they prefer that not.
Great place to work and eat! Their pumpkin spiced latte is delicious. laptop policy: monday to Thursday 9:30-12:00 and 15:00-17:00
Everything was great! Saw a negative comment about a laptop. I asked about it and was told it is allowed only upstairs and not busy times. This seems reasonable to me. We had food, latte and cortado. Very good and well presented.
Really cozy place to have a coffee and a study session. You are allowed to use your laptop throughout the morning. They have a great selection of coffees you can choose from and different things to eat. Kind staff and cozy and warm atmosphere inside, especially the attic!
Excellent coffee, beautiful space, but not allowed to pull out your laptop... (at least not on weekends?)
The ladies working here were so lovely friendly and accommodating. The Iced coffees were amazing. This is the first place we stopped for a breath upon arriving in Leiden and it has a special place in our hearts. We later returned for a set breakfast which was really lovely. They had the best jam ever, I ended up sharing it with a wasp! Even the wasp who worked in the outside seating area was a great guy. It was balanced, came with a hard boiled egg, lovely fruity yoghurt, croissant with jam and vanilla cream and some classic bread ham and cheese! As you can see, it was a serious spot hitter. Kept us going all day!
the ambiance is really nice, food is good, but it is definitely not the place where to sit and work over some coffee. Wi-fi is for free, but you have to re-connect every 30 minutes. The waitress comes very often asking what else you would like to order....to stay there working for 2 hours I had to order a coffee, two spa roods, a big breakfast yogurth, and when at the n-th time I said I was fine, I still had the spa rood, the waitress asked me to then move to the remote corner of the table to make space for other clients (many seats in the room where still available).
One of the best cortados I’ve ever had. Good standards for coffee. You can use your laptop but only on the top floor.
Terrible experience! I was in a rush for an online meeting so I got in and sat down very quickly! Then I was told I couldn't sit with my laptop on the weekend and without asking what to order! There is no written note about this anywhere, how would I know? Then the waiter took the menu and disappeared!
I visited this place a few times but this time I needed to write a review for bad experiences. It was Sunday and the whole floor was empty. I just wanted to sit and used my laptop to finished the assignment, someone came and said no laptop policy during weekend. But it was Sunday, morning with the whole floor empty! My laptop using cannot influence their turnover and income so why they didn’t allow for that? Super disappointing. And nobody told me during weekday. So if you really have that policy, just put some visible note instead of after I ordered and said I cannot use my laptop…
We used to come quite often, because they had a special working place, but unfortunately laptops are no longer allowed between 12-3 (so basically almost the whole day).
I was not allowed to use my laptop at the open space (probably they want the seats to be cleared fast and using laptop users usually stay longer) which was surprising and annoying as a smoker.
Very good espresso and finally a nice coffee place with no-laptop policy! I love it!
Great place, 3 separated floors, good for families, relaxing, working! Excellent coffee :)
Great for catching up with friends or working.
laptop is not allowed, even though there is no clear sign anywhere.
They kicked me out because they don’t like to have people working with their laptops. “It’s not relaxing” too bad!
NO laptop?!
I visited Barista Cafe Leiden today. I deliberately picked a quiet corner seat, not disturbing anyone, planning to work on my laptop.
I waited a very long time before anyone came to take my order. Only after I placed my order did a staff member approach and tell me laptops are not permitted here.
I respect cafes having their own house rules, yet there were no visible signs anywhere to warn customers of this laptop ban before I sat down and ordered. It was really frustrating: I waited ages to order, placed my food/drink order, and then got told I could not use my laptop.
The space looks lovely, but this place is not suitable for anyone hoping to work on a computer.
Super cute cafe with a cozy atmosphere.
They have all kinds of coffees, matcha, etc.
Also great for lunch.
Upstairs, there's also a kind of study area where you can sit with your laptop.
Not expensive at all.
Good, friendly service.
Toys for kids.
One of the best places in Leiden where you get served good coffee. The cappuccino is exquisite. A beautiful, pleasant spot in the heart of the city center where I regularly work on my laptop. Friendly staff. A place you are bound to visit often.
Nice and cozy café, spread over three floors (and an extra room when it gets busy). There is a pleasant atmosphere, beautiful decor, and the drinks are good (I had the chai latte and winter latte). The food is also good value for the large portions you get. Ideal place to study/work on a laptop or read a book (for this I recommend the 3rd floor, which is a bit quieter and has power outlets). I will definitely be back here!
Good food and fast service, too bad you're sent all the way to the attic if you bring a laptop, even when it's not busy at all and plenty of seats are available.
The food and drinks were delicious, and the decor is super nice and beautiful. It's a shame that you're only allowed to sit upstairs with your laptop; it is quite a darker corner of the café. This isn't clear beforehand either, so we had to walk upstairs with all our stuff after we had already settled in.
Tea gets cold quickly, coffee could be much better and hot, of course. And on Sundays, you'll be chased away if you try to use your laptop on the table. But they come every three minutes to ask if you want anything else, as if you're drinking tea at Central Station. And they're kind enough to recommend other places in the city.
The only star is for the friendliness of the staff, the other for the reasonable coffee. By the way, I find it rather impersonal to implement a no-laptop policy while your terrace is empty. In any case, it doesn't align with my needs. The coffee was fine. The table was on a vertical slope, causing your plate to slide down.
Patronizing. You're not allowed on the laptop on Sunday. Not even if you're called up because you're on duty. Then you have to stay home or something. What a letdown.
You are not allowed to sit here with a laptop between 11 and 13; unfortunately, I came to study, so I was sent away.
Bizarrely bad service, shouldn't be on your laptop in 2021. I'll never come here again.
