Johan & Nyström - Kanavaranta

I thought inside was nice but service and cleanliness was disappointing.

The latte was okay, mostly ice. This place is not 4.3, more like 2.5, especially considering price and service.

Asked for espresso tonic and out of tonic. No iced tea besides matcha.

Service reminded me of Ryanair, questions with one word answers or little bit talking down to. For example asked if Wi-Fi for phone (no laptop) was told no with a weird satisfied face.

Had A/C minisplits which is nice. Brick is nice.

But place was covered with dishes and plates. Really felt dirty, including the bar could have used a wipe down.

Service also left a figurative bad taste in my mouth. Saw barista treat other customers poorly as well when asking questions about sandwiches. Maybe bad day or maybe some people don't like people! 😂

Summary: If you go, go for location by water, not for coffee or hospitality.

Lastly they are cash free, meaning you must use your credit card even if foreign transaction fee.

Great local cafe serving good quality passionate coffee to all. I had the latte for €4.50 it's the average price in Helsinki. My only issue was the food the smallest slice of raw cake I have every seen for nearly €8 it was extremely over priced.

The atmosphere is nice with free wifi and outdoor seating. It's defiantly worth a visit while down at the docs.

Note: they also offer tea and coffee training courses I found this really interesting.

No wifi is offered here, even though that is common in coffee shops. Just a heads up.

The lady was not helping us, I came for an urgent meeting and they don’t have wifi and I’m visitor, not from Finland. Horrible experience.

When we asked about an advice for wifi, she said I don’t know, I don’t care, another customer helped us. The tea was cold

Sadly had I a terrible customer service experience. Poor explanation of the breakfast menu, and how it works, and just bad vibes. When asking for a wifi, response was once again rude and negative. Cute spot, but poor customer service ruins it for me :/

The cappuccino I had was really good. The place itself had a really chill atmosphere with people chatting, working on their laptops and enjoying the quality coffee.

One of the most unfriendly and unmotivated waiters we have experienced in a café. Someone like that should not be working as a waiter. Coffee and tea were OK, almond croissant good and the cinnamon bun unfortunately very hard.

Nice place for coffee near to south harbor and close to Senate square. Nice colorful tables outside. Interesting, vintage design inside. Free wifi.

Had a deliciously smooth pour-over from Brazil and a chocolate chip cookie. wifi was strong and there were a few smaller tables to choose from along with seats at a communal table.

Employees seem very unhappy, and customers notice. No wifi internet. Expensive so-so coffee. I have no reason to return.

Jedna z lepszych kawiarni w jakich byłam. Kawa rewelacyjnie zaparzona. Aromatyczna. Kanapki świeże i smaczne. Myślę że wrócę przy kolejnej okazji. Obsługa przyjazna.

Johan & Nyström is the best working cafe in Helsinki! Cozy, calm (especially during the mornings) great coffee and friendly staff. If you are looking for a cafe for working this is the one!

Very nice place and atmosphere. For working or for having a meeting, or just to disconnect.

It isn't easy to find the door. And they were not working at 1 May.

Very cool interior and comfortable seating, seems like a good spot for remote working or reading. But the quality of coffee was disappointing and the staff was very cold — didn’t feel very welcome.
