Kahverengi Roastery Sultanahmet

Admittedly felt suspicious about this place seeing it's 4.9 star rating which in Turkey tends to mean not great, same as 5* (because the business owners friends and families rate the business 5* in traditional Turkish culture), however I was pleasantly surprised.
Like most tourists, I'll avoid businesses that are 5 or 4.9* rating in Turkey.
The flat white however (c. $10) was really good, the coffee blend used in espresso and filter, has some character to it.
The croissant (c.$12) was definitely a solid ok. Overall, I'd consider coming here again if in the area. It's on the pricey side however in fairness it's in the heart of a tourist area and I did order a flat white!
The staff were straight forward and attentive, not hassling, which is always appreciated.
REMOTE work: They have very well planned power point outlets throughout, you can even go upstairs with your laptop and overlook the street, people watch and work with a cuppa.
ACCESSIBILITY: Somewhat limited. Outside there is easy pram/wheelchair access, however the toilets are up stairs.
LOCATION: Right next to the tram line and near the Blue mosque and Sophia Hagia: Grand Mosque.

Let me start with something important: yes, the coffee here is good — but that’s not what makes Kahverengi Roastery Sultanahmet special to me. What really stands out, and what truly makes a third-wave (aka specialty) coffee shop shine, is the energy, the people, and the emotional experience. That’s what I look for, and that’s what I found here.

From the moment I walked in, I felt it. Positive vibes. Genuine smiles. Warmth. Maya and Yusuf, thank you — you’re both incredible. Your presence, friendliness, and authenticity create a space that’s more than just a coffee stop — it’s a place to breathe, to reset, to be around good people.

The coffee? Great, of course. I had a beautifully balanced espresso and a clean, smooth filter. But honestly, even if the shot had been slightly off (which it wasn’t), I’d still come back — because what matters more is that you feel welcome, relaxed, and inspired.

This location just opened about a month ago, so I’m giving it some grace. Not everything is perfect yet, but they’re clearly on the right track — and honestly, they’re already pretty close to ideal. Clean space, quiet environment, reliable Wi-Fi, and comfortable setup for working on a laptop. You can actually think here. And that’s rare.

I highly recommend Kahverengi Roastery Sultanahmet to anyone visiting or living in Istanbul. If you’re a coffee lover — especially if you’re chasing that perfect espresso or V60 — give it a shot. Flip the espresso cup after drinking it and take a photo — maybe you’ll get a discount (don’t quote me on that, but hey, it’s fun!).

If you’re someone who values energy, kindness, human connection — and yes, excellent coffee — then this is a spot worth checking out. I’ll definitely be back.
