My favourite cafe in The Hague. Very cozy and chill. 😊 Suitable also for working.

Anisa27.10.2026

A really unique cafe in Den Haag. As Google Map says, it really is a cafe, book store and library all at once. It is a good place for everyone; for those looking for a cafe to catch up with friends, or for those looking for a place where they can work on their laptop. In the warmer days, they also have seats outside (both in front of the store as well as in their backyard garden). Overall a very cute cafe, so much so that we went twice on our day trip to Den Haag ❤️

The Bookstor Cafe is one of the places I’ve dreamed of visiting in The Hague 🫶🏻

The cafe is quite big and has a lot of book collections, making it fun to explore. I love seeing people doing their own things, reading books, working on laptops, or talking with friends. It feels lively but still calm and comfortable.

The space makes you want to stay longer and slow down… :) They also have a unique garden at the back, which is a lovely spot! hope I can visit again one day and enjoy the coffee

Lovely cafe. Only 2 staff members to take care of the many tables there are. Beautiful historic bookstore and nice coffee. There isn't much to eat besides a few cakes. But they were good. Definitely drop by for a coffee and a read. The cafe is very popular with people working out of it on their laptops. Great vibe.

The place has a nice view, a garden with good coffee. Food menu is quite limited with only some sweet pie. There is no menu, people need to ask for what they have. Drink options limited to coffee, tea and orange/lemon juice. In general, nice place to seat with friend and hangouts maybe read some book. wifi is not really functioning, so not a place to work if you need internet.

Shishi27.10.2026

Such a beautiful cafe and bookstore. Super aesthetic, ambient, and cute. I sat there and worked for many hours (and saw many others working and studying - the wifi is great) also a nice place to browse books and have a small bite and coffee. I had the vegan banana cake, it was too cinnamon-y than banana 🙁

Dona van Eeden27.10.2026

One of my favourite places. Small, but beautifully curated selection of books. Best for solo dates, working or reading ❤️ Not lots of space to sit at a table with other people.

Tzruya Calvão Chebach27.10.2026

Great set up and atmosphere, food is pretty basic, staff a little impatient and not very welcoming which is unfortunate. Lovely lovely garden, chess boards, fun corners, many people were working comfortably in their laptops

Chocobo27.10.2026

A cafe which i wanted to visit for a while. Eventually went here with a friend. We spend here quite some time catching up. It was super busy, which is no surprise considering how cosy this place is. Like the homey feel to it! If you like books, good cakes and some tea/coffee then this is the place for you! Love that everyone is minding their own business too (some were there chitchatting, some were studying/working, some were just reading a book, etc.)

Gustika Jusuf-Hatta27.10.2026

It's in the name: this place is a bookstore-café. An awesome place to work with a laptop. Love the atmosphere. Friendly prices! Delicious cake as snacks while you read/ do your work 😊

Selene27.10.2026

This must be my favourite spot in Den Haag. A very cozy and welcoming atmosphere and a great spot to be working or studying. The only downside is that it's always packed. Make sure to bring cash if you don't have a maestro. Cakes are super good and the people who work there super nice. They don't have a broad selection of brews and cakes but that doesn't matter much to me at least. I really recommend the pear and caramel cake!

Haze Ng27.10.2026

Super nice vibes.
Good cafe to take a rest and charge my phone with socket available
It’s like a study room with people working and studying their laptop around.

Klára Vaněčková27.10.2026

Super cozy place, very silent so good for studying/working. The chocolate muffin tasted a little chemicaly, but it es freshly naked still warm when i got it. In the back there is nice garden, Im looking forward to to there later! Definitely one of my favourite cafés here!

Marleen27.10.2026

Lovely coffee spot, bookshop & tasty cakes. I love to see everyone having a nice time either working on their laptops, reading a book, playing chess or just chatting and chilling. The chocolate rose cookie is absolutely delicious. I think this spot is very unique to see in the city.

Limar Gonzalez27.10.2026

The Bookstor Café is a lovely and cozy spot on one of The Hague’s most charming central streets. From the outside it looks beautiful, and I imagine that on a quiet day it must feel truly special.

It’s worth knowing that the café is usually very busy. The first time I went on a Sunday it was full and I couldn’t get in. When I returned on another afternoon, almost every seat was taken by people working on their laptops, and the atmosphere felt a bit overwhelming.

The café is self-service, and you order at the bar. A practical issue is that there is no visible menu or price list, and the only menu online is from six years ago. Even the cakes and books don’t have prices displayed, so you end up ordering without knowing the cost. My cappuccino was €5.80, which is on the expensive side for its size. If you have two coffees and a small snack, it’s easy to spend around €20.

They offer a few loaves (like carrot cake) and some beautiful cookies, though the selection is limited. It would be really helpful if prices were displayed at the counter.

Overall:
• Pros: great location, cozy look, good for working in the city center.
• Things to consider: very crowded, no prices shown, drinks are relatively expensive, and the atmosphere can feel intense when full.
• Best for: people who want a lively central spot to work.
• Not ideal for: anyone seeking a quiet, relaxed café experience.

Patrick B.27.10.2026

A beautiful chill store with the perfect vibes for every book lover out there.

The garden is very idyllic and there are plenty of places to rest and enjoy your favorite book.

The cafe part however is a bit lacking, especially with the diversity of snack to chose from.

If you want an impression of the best book cafe, check out the Kaufmannsladen in Königswinter.

One thing i'd like to note though is the enormous amount of laptop users that block almost all the indoor spots at times. This should really change.

Nataliia Terskaia27.10.2026

Love this bookshop x cafe. The garden is beautiful, the interior design is something out of a movie. I even show this place to every friend who visits The Hague as a tourist. I also love its cozy vibe and friendliness for laptops. I come here to work remotely with my laptop for a couple of hours in the afternoon. It may be not so easy to find a convenient place to sit. The place has wifi. The coffee is fine, cakes are ok. There is no table service but they also have a terrace on the street.

Peter Dongelmans27.10.2026

Nice place, good coffee, (bit worn down floor, counter ..)very busy, on a Saturday, especially by laptop students staying the whole day on one coffee, so difficult to find a seat.

Maria-Nefeli Revela27.10.2026

A lovely study-friendly place in the centre of the city. I really appreciate the coffee and snack selection, as everything is always tasty and based on pure ingredients, which you don’t find often in Den Haag. On the downside it is usually a struggle to find a spot as the place is well-known and since people are working/studying, there are very limited spots to sit down, sip your coffee and get work done.

Abi27.10.2026

I love this place so much! It has this unique calm atmosphere, the ladies working here are very nice! Oatmilk latte are delicious. Vegan banana bread also nice 🌹

Ksenia Vinichenko27.10.2026

The place is cash/Netherlands cards only!

The place has lovely atmosphere and nice little garden inside. Good place for working or meeting your friends

Panos Efstathiou27.10.2026

Extremely rude owner, who made a fuss because I plugged in my laptop, in order to work (in a space where multiple people were working, mind you). Absolutely pathetic behaviour, actively harassing me, he threatened to call the police for an absolute non-issue. Inexcusable.

zyp resse27.10.2026

I like the ambience of this place and bookstore cafe idea but the service is really poor. I ordered a ‘raspberry lemonade’ which was what I was told that I’m gonna get, but it was just a sparkling raspberry juice or whatever… and she did not give me the whole bottle as well, the glass was dirty and she tucked a huge mint in it no ice or anything. I said I will be sitting in the garden, so you can find me there, she said you can pick it up your order, I don’t have to!!! Unless you have self-service! I did it anyways but very disappointed at the end… do not recommend to have any drinks, only cosy for studying or working.

Ece Y.27.10.2026

Cute and cosy atmosphere inside but somewhat... sterile. If you just want to chill with tea or coffee while working you'll find it pleasant. Coffee is decent and pastries and homemade sandwiches are just fine.

It is quite annoying that you can't smoke on the street or in the back garden tho:/.

Fari27.10.2026

There is no menu for the food. Some breakfast options (e.g. granola with yoghurt and fruit) while reading the newspaper would have been nice. I have no clue what kind of beverages and food they offer and I asked if they have a menu and they said no we dont! 😑
But love the decoration, and the possibility to read...
They also have free wifi 😊 Amazing. If they can adjust the food options a bit it would be nicer

Aart Gerde27.10.2026

Lovely place, located near the palace Noordeinde, where there is an abundance of books and a small but complete menu. This bookstore-lunchroom has no equal that I know of. Its atmosphere is relaxing and welcoming, its staff is friendly, the food is good and the prices are below average; lunch for two this afternoon cost me fifteen Euro, which is all but steep. Love it here!

Edit September 2021: still a lovely spot to hang out, but lunch is no longer available here. Too bad, because I loved the soups and toasted sandwiches. But if all you want is coffee, tea and juice with something sweet on the side, this is still the place to be. Hook up your laptop and chill out.

Meda Kuizinaite27.10.2026

Really nice people working here, really cozy atmosphere 😁 definitely recommend visiting for a coffee

Colette Billuart27.10.2026

Such a picturesque and atmospheric bookstore! The selection of books is truly very interesting, and the noise level is perfect to study or read. There is wifi if you ask for the password too! The only thing I’m confused about is why there’s no menu? I couldn’t find one and I was too scared to ask (my fault) so I just randomly asked for a coffee- which is tasty. If someone could let me know if I missed something, please do!

Rachel Salcedo27.10.2026

A bit hard to pay if you don’t have a Dutch card, so come prepared with cash. The atmosphere is amazing and the wifi is strong. The staff were so nice and the coffee was great. Loved it here.

Giannis Kerentzis27.10.2026

Lovely and cozy place where you can bring your laptop and work/study for hours. Great coffee, and tasteful sweet and salty snack options. The fact that is a bookstore makes it even more unique, great book choices.

Paul Lammertsma27.10.2026

Odd place, with people working, shopping for books and drinking coffee. Don't expect to sit down for an elaborate meal, but the avocado on toast is simple and downright delicious. Nice place for a coffee, the oat milk latte is perfect.

Gregor Joschko27.10.2026

It would definitely be a cool place if it weren’t for all the pseudo-intellectual teenagers hanging around, writing their homework with Chat GPT or discussing the meaning of life with too much daddy money backing them up.

Furthermore:

• Coffee is very OK
• No charging options for laptop etc
• The staff acts wannabe arrogant because it’s apparently trendy nowadays 🤔

Chris C27.10.2026

Cozy store! Great place for reading of your own books (either bought or taken from home). Poor laptop policy, more people were working on their laptop with headphones on instead of reading and engaging with others.

Julia Latajka27.10.2026

Nice cafe with good coffee and cakes. Nice atmosphere, many places for working or just sit. It’s bookshop combined with cafe, nice concept.

Ivi Travels27.10.2026

The absolute best cappuccino in town. The magical perfection makes you wonder why nobody else has figured out the recipe... notTo mention the delicious cakes and toasties. The atmosphere of the Bookstor is wonderfully relaxed, no one will chase you out the door after finishing your coffee, stick around, enjoy the jazzy background music, read a book, work using the excellent wifi and just chill out.... life is just real good when you are here!!

Michael Bonfert27.10.2026

Unexpected bike rental with reasonable bikes for 15€/day (prices on the website are incorrect).
Friendly, creative atmosphere with many guests coming for reading or working. Helpful service.

Stefano Bertoli27.10.2026

Great place, great staff and quality products, ok prices. Please do invest in changing the door that leads to the patio; it's hard to open and close, very noisy, and confusing to customers that aren't used to it, which then take 5 minutes just trying to figure it out and annoying the nearby customers, most of which are working or reading.

Shreya Deep Bansod27.10.2026

Good place to read a book and work (they don't have wifi)

Ageliki k27.10.2026

The cutest place!
The atmosphere is amazing and the people working there really nice!

Imaan Faruqui27.10.2026

Amazing place. Could use more sockets for those working at the back of the cafe

Ilona27.10.2026

This is THE cafe for cozy read or a deep chat☕️📚 I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve visited here, but still I manage to find a different nook every time. Not only do they have a great variety of seats (classic terras outside, greenhouse garden, laptop spaces, conversation areas and writing/art seats), there is also a great selection of book to browse all around the cafe! I will never stop recommending this place and I wish there were more cafes like this in the Netherlands.

Arpita S27.10.2026

Amazing vibes, good coffee. wifi could be better!

Sophie Moss27.10.2026

Cute cafe but wifi unreliable !

Yibo Yang27.10.2026

Environment good, wifi sucks

Elli Chen27.10.2026

Matthijs27.10.2026

Great coffee and tea, tasty cookies and cakes, but the atmosphere is the main reason I come here. A few years ago it was quite a bit cozier, but now I often can't even sit here comfortably with a friend because it's packed with people with laptops. Moreover, some of them get annoyed if we're talking next to them. A designated laptop zone (and therefore no laptops in the rest of the room) might be able to bring back the old atmosphere? :-)

Lola Peterson27.10.2026

I visited this location yesterday. Personally, the charm and experience were very disappointing. It was incredibly crowded, and the atmosphere felt strange: almost everyone was crammed together, with some working on a laptop. Instead of the tranquility and charm of an authentic bookstore, it felt more like a flexi-workspace or public library.
I don't find the interior or the building itself particularly special. I'd rather be in a library in peace and quiet.

Vivi An27.10.2026
