The Underdog® Thissio

The Underdog is where it’s at. Everything about it is pitch perfect. The front has big tall Greek style open windows onto the street below, the back wall is windows with a more industrial look. It is light and airy with wood floors, wood ceiling, and plenty of seating. The music isn’t too loud for conversation and working and the soundtrack is excellent. The coffee is the best, most well-made latte I have had in Athens. The avocado toast was delicious. The service was outstanding. The vibe is so relaxing and cool, I could have sat here all day. I am from San Francisco/Oakland area and if this place were there, it would be packed. Highly recommend.

It's one of my to go spots in the center of Athens. Last time I visit this place, Service was perfect

Prices a bit high but typical for the location.

Good place for studying, laptop friendly, or for business meetings .. Drinks were cold tho. (As they should)

Calm, perfect for working

Really lovely place to visit and have a brunch there. I had this amazing Coffee cocktail that was so refreshing and that I completely adored. The food was also good and tasty. The whole interior design was relaxing and people working here are super friendly and nice. Would recommend this place to anyone that likes brunches.

Great award winning coffee - look at those barista championship awards! Depending on the season and the blend - it may not always suit your personal taste but it’s coffee quality shines through. entrance can be rather unassuming so don’t miss it. Very large space with two floors, working space but on the noisy side with the music and crowd. Great for hanging out but maybe not reading or meetings.

Place is super cool and perfect if you want to bring ur laptop with. Wide spaces, lots of spots to sit and do ur magic has great coffee and tasty interesting food to choose from. I took the cold brew coffee, the green salad and the green toast or something, which all where great in taste and size. Folks in were friendly as well.

I loved this spot. I needed to assess my travel plans and it had great wifi, comfortable seating, a few spots with power and the food was phenomenal. Would go back for sure.

The smell of gourmet coffee welcomes you from the entrance. The staff is young, smiling and speaks decent English.
Good selection of craft lagers and ales is available. No industrial beers, no Heineken and Amstel, no Alpha and Mythos, thank you much. I have ordered Vergina, produced by a micro-brewery in the North of Greece.
The food is also great. Poached eggs with sautéed mushrooms were lovely, as well as the red quinoa salad with fresh mango.
Cocktails: these bartenders are damn good in preparing cocktails! I tried the Slumdog (white rum, lime juice, passion fruit and caramel liquor) and I can't wait to come back here to check out the other ones.
The coffee is out of this world. Ordered a double shot espresso brewed from a single estate coffee, harvested in El Salvador: slightly acid, with green apple after taste. Delicious!
What I can't understand about the Underdog is the high number of bad reviews on Trip Advisor, many of them for stupid reasons (such as "my glass was not washed well" or "I don't like their laptop policy"). However, all these bad reviews seem to be posted by Greek haters, I ignored them all and I'm happy about this.
All in all, I can't wait to come back here!

Very good coffee - but not good for working!

Many websites recommend this cafe as a place to work! But: Be careful if you need to get some serious work done!! The wifi keeps going on and off as the place gets more full. Actually in the end it went off completely... (i asked them to restart it, but they didnt do it.)

We choose this place to work and definitely is not a good place to do it! Starting with a slow wifi and seconded by smoke made by a roasting machine they have in the middle of the store. Might have good food, I really don’t know, but was really disappointing

The atmosphere is great and very close to the Acropolis. The service is very good, the people working there are kind and welcoming. However the food was disappointing enough compared to the prices as well. No value for money at all

Love this place. Was looking for some good specialty coffee and loved the natural Ethiopian. I also tried exotic hand brew option they offered and it was super delicious. If you’re looking for some good specialty/filter coffee with a great spacious atmosphere with wifi, look no further. Also get the cinnamon roll! 5/5

One of my favorite spots in Athens! I've been to Underdog a few times and it never disappoints. It's a great place to bring your laptop and work comfortably—the Wi-Fi is strong and the atmosphere is calm and inspiring. The backyard is especially lovely, perfect for a peaceful break or a productive work session.

The staff is always kind and attentive, which makes the experience even better. I've tried the Freddo Cappuccino, Avocado Toast, and the Healthy Quinoa Salad—all were delicious, fresh, and nicely prepared. Definitely a go-to spot for healthy food, great coffee, and a relaxed vibe.

Great central location . Perfect for working. Music not to loud, really friendly and helpful staff. Great coffee and snacks. Lovely little courtyard as well as indoor seating. Big open space and plenty of electrical outlets so you can charge laptop etc.

Quite interesting industrialised ambience of multiple levels, friendly and kind staff, free wifi, excellent tastes of simple but delicious dishes, drinks, flavours of tea and cocktails. Recommended!

We were waiting to be served for 20 minutes. Very bad service. Serveurs werent working just talking to each other

The restaurant is big and clean, they serve brunches all day long for a reasonable price (though it's a bit pricey compared to other places). As for COVID times, everything was neat and well organized. Also, there's free open wifi with good speed.
I took the chocolate pancakes and a coffee (for 8€). The pancakes were big and tasty. Only problem is that it took them over 30 minutes (!) to give me these pancakes although the restaurant was quite empty. They haven't said anything and didn't apologize when I said it's taking too long (they just said it's just 30 minutes - which is a bit much in my opinion).

Truly lovely coffeeshop! I quit on coffee so I generally drink decaf, and I must say: their decaf is so tasty! The place has a kind of industrial design, with a nice area outside and it offers good wifi connection to work and it’s quite enough. The food manu is very interesting with vegetarian and vegan options (I had the lentils salad, delicious). Highly recommend!

1 star ratings of this place show a clear misunderstanding of speciality coffee. Both the espresso and the pour over were absolutely on point. Barista tasted everything before he served it, like in a good cocktail bar. The anaerobic filter was smooth and complex. Just delicious.

Only thing I experienced was a slow wifi connection, but that could just as well be because I was in a dead spot (at the low counter).

Overrated place! Pricing is unreasonable, cocktails are all for 8 euros and everything else is so overpriced. We sat down and waitresses didn't see us for a while so the barrista came to take our order. We had already opened our laptops before they took our order and after half an hour, the waitress comes and says "Our policy is that no laptops are allowed on the weekends". Then please tell us beforehand (I would have left) or have a sign! Unprofessional. Overpriced hipster place trying to get a faster table turnaround and get into the London trend to have the rule "no laptop" on weekends. If in London though, we would be offered our beer for free after the mistake of the barrista! Clearly no customer skills and no training for the staff on how to handle these issues so bad management!

P.s. a response to your reply: your comment below shows your character. No wonder why you had almost no customers at 5pm on a Saturday.

Lovely ambience, great food however, I'm annoyed at the fact that this is a Cafe stated as a great place to work but with poor internet connection that is often slow or not working. Also one of the server didn't understand that the QR code is for EU citizens and not for other countries.

Absolutely huge inside and you’d easily walk past if you didn’t know it was there. Coffee was delicious as was the food, with friendly and unrushed service. Perfect place to relax, read a book or do some work. wifi and plug sockets available.

if you’re planning on going there to study with your laptop just know that the internet connection is really reallyyyy bad! i asked the stuff why that is and they said it’s due to the bad connection that this area has in general so yeahh i don’t know! other than that the place itself is really cute just to sit and enjoy your coffee or cocktail tho the menu is small

Poor wifi connection and mobile internet is not strong either inside the building. Know this place for 3 years and all the 3 years the internet connection has never been fixed. Small flies attacking you while you’re eating, what’s then going on in the kitchen? It’s a shame, I don’t understand where the owner is looking. Although, the prices are quite high, so primitive and basic things are not fixed.

Hands down, best iced coffee we had in athens. The staff working there are super friendly and we went back more than one for breakfast 😄 can't recommend this place enough!!

Fantastic place for bunkering down for few hours of work. laptop friendly, open & cool space (great during the heatwaves), super friendly staff, delicious food (cannot stop thinking about those eggs benedict with guacamole 😋). Great vibe!

The place was full and there were only two guys working. I pity them. We sat for 35 minutes until someone spoke to us.

I have spent a day working here. The wifi connection is interrupted sometimes and the tap water they bring tastes a bit off, but overall I managed to get things done here and have decent food and drinks, thank you :)

It looks like co-working cafe but wifi was so bad that it reminded me 90ties when once could go to make a coffee or sandwitch while connecting to the internet. Food was tasty, though, and coffee was definitely real coffee.

they are roasting coffee in the lower level so it smells wonderful, plenty of places to plug in a laptop, friendly staff, great food and fantastic coffee

Very nice place. The guys are very kind and helpful. Quiet place if you want to have a business meeting or work on your laptop. Spotlessly clean. We got 2 freddo espresso like the Greeks that we are. One Ethiopian and the other Brazilian. Personally I liked the Ethiopian better.

Nice place, good service, and delicious food. There's a special drinks menu, especially coffee. You can sit here quietly without being bothered (for example, while working or studying). Free Wi-Fi.

We went for brunch on Saturday morning. Very nice place. The Angus burger was perfect and the pancake with cheesecake was very original, delicious and huge. I didn't try the coffee to have an opinion but I have the same opinion as the address about laptops on the weekend we should all be served

Sehr schönes Café in einem wunderschönen, klassischen Athener Altstadthaus, in dem man mit einem Kaffee entspannt und ruhig arbeiten kann. Es gibt einen Außenbereich und Tische mit Stromanschluss für den laptop. Was ich sympathisch finde: Am Wochenende bleiben die laptops zu, da wird nicht gearbeitet.
Flat White war sehr lecker, das Egg Benedict auch. Supernette Bedienung.

Nice place for brunch in the Thissio area. Very good options for brunch and coffee, from burgers to egg options. It has a backyard, and is also suitable for working (via laptop) and even for groups as it has large tables.

Great place to work. Prices aren't cheap, but the quality is good, and the space is perfect. The staff are fantastic. They make sure you have enough water without being pushy. There are power outlets, a terrace area, and a huge indoor area. The Wi-Fi works perfectly.

They ban laptops on weekends
You can't say it's one of the worst workplaces in Athens if you can't even bring your laptop.
