Good location, free wifi, cosy environment. Great coffice if you got a book to read or a computer to work on. Food and coffee is OK but the food is a little overpriced.
I am a gluten free celiac and they have fantastic gluten free bread and borscht, the ladies working there are always super lovely and attentive and as an Eastern European, I am very happy to say that the food is very delicious and authentic :))) (napoleon is not gluten free but my cousin said it was fantastic- plus it’s one of my favourite foods so I added it too!)
The staff was friendly but the place has too many tables for the size of the kitchen. I can see it working as a bookstore cafe where they only serve coffee and cakes, and patrons take their time at the tables perhaps reading a good book, but not as place serving hot meals to that many tables.
Unfortunately the place was packed in the sunday we visited, most people were clearly going for full lunches and service was unbelievably slow. It took so long for us to get our 2 coffees and 2 juices order that I wondered if they were serving tables on a strictly first come, first served basis regardless of our order not needing anything from the kitchen.
As for the coffee, my long black was burnt and bitter.
A message for the team - I’m a Sydney city local and have been coming here for years. But today I see a sign that says no studying or working. What’s been happening that’s made this kind of sign be posted? Surely workers are welcome if they continue to buy food and drinks throughout the day? I’m surprised and saddened - I enjoy sitting here to read or write in my journal - all kinds of quiet activity. Please can you give some feedback about this issue? Cannot speak more highly of this cafe - the service, food and coffee are sublime. ❤️❤️ thank you team ❤️❤️
We, a group of 5, were ignored by staff. Not a single bit of acknowledgment or eye contact while we were waiting for 5+ minutes to be seated. which clearly stated on a sign at the entrance you had to wait to be seated. One waitress even walked right past us. There were plenty working that day and were hanging around the kitchen. There were two other people in front of us who were also not being served, they left too.
We left and took our business to QVB where we were served immediately.
Overall disappointing
24/04 around 3pm
I have read reviews before coming here and I have expected to receive better service. I love coffee and atmosphere here except the way a waitress treated me. At first when she took my order, not one smile showed on her face and even when I said “thank you” she went away not even intend to say anything back. However I simply thought that she might be tired or sth. Next thing is since I didn’t know the kitchen has closed, I asked her with all respect, quoted “Can I please one scone and a cup of water? Thank you?” And she immediately said, quoted “No” to my face without any explanation. I was confused and to be franked, quite in shocked as she said that to me with such a questionable attitude. Then I have to ask why to get an answer from her that the cafe is about to close. And after a while I also asked her if I have to leave as this is my first time here, she again only said “yes” and said that the cafe will shut the door, etc. Since when customers are treated that way? I myself have been working in hospitality and retail industry and I can assure that this is not how customers are treated.
Very slow and quality of food did not reflect the extremely expensive menu for a book store cafe with no atmosphere. Whilst staff were efficient I wouldn't say anyone seemed overly happy or excited to be working there
i really like this establishment. good wifi and u can read some books from dymocks library
I’ve been here with my family on several occasions. Fantastic food 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
