PLG Coffee House and Tavern

Customer service could use improvement. We walked in and there was one guy working so we patiently waited as he took orders and made them. When it was our turn, he barely greeted us and acted like we were bothering him by wanting food lol. He was also cursing a lot while speaking to customers. That was a bit strange in my opinion. The food was amazing though. A bit pricey but it def slapped.

Calling all hybrid and work from home folks this a Really cool and chic café. Perfect if you need a few hours to get stuff done on your laptop

I ordered the Rachel, which is like a turkey Reuben — a little different but really good. I also had a matcha that was surprisingly enjoyable. It wasn’t bitter like matcha can sometimes be, and I didn’t even need to add any sweetener.

Nice place just to get an espresso or sandwich while getting work done on your laptop. Very casual and cozy vibe, the complete opposite of "Starbucks drive thru" that every neighborhood should have.

It's the ambiance that makes this place for sure. It's super cute and comfy and makes you feel as if you're at home. The outdoor seating is really nice too. It's usually pretty crowded inside in particular so be prepared. We've been here dozens of times and it's mostly that it's so close that we keep going. The Ruben is amazing. It's a great sandwhich spot and if you wanna go work on your laptop but not in Starbucks. It's coffee is decent it's juices are really yummy. The quality of the sandwiches and the portion sizes could be better. There isn't a bathroom though.

wifi is strong and coffee is stronger. Small coffee shop with a wide range of caffeinated beverages, typical café breakfast options, and a decent sandwich selection for lunch (option to change them into salads. They get pretty annoyed if you attempt to use a credit card with purchases under $6 (I know, I know). outlets are sparse, but they have a couple power strips if you need to recharge.

Really bad situation. They were out of much of the menu. Then a thirty minute wait for sandwiches. They brought cheese on vegan friend’s sandwich. They refused to give me a refund. Then she had to wait thirty more minutes. There was no more hummus, and the cheese was still there on the plate for unclear reasons. Two people working when there should be four.

came with my husband, baby, and friend on a friday afternoon and grabbed a seat at the communal table. not too crowded, mostly people working on their laptops. quiet,some music (slightly lower volume would’ve been even better), and we were able to chat without raising our voices. my baby fell asleep ins troller and we enjoyed two smoothies, a tuna melt, and turkey avocado sandwich—all delicious and decently priced. sandwiches used to take forever but were done in a decent time on this visit. friendly staff. atmosphere could use some work—space felt cluttered and outdated, you’ll walk out smelling a bit like food. overall good experience and nice neighborhood staple.

Easily gained this review bc of the people. Happy, sweet, suggested something new, and buttered my food FOR me!? Tasted good and atmosphere is perfect for working or hanging out.

Had the farm chicken sandwich. It was very tasty.

Nice vibes but didn't feel like the AC was working. Then again, it was one of the hottest days so maybe it just couldn't keep up this time.

One of my absolute favorite cafes in the area! I work remotely and frequently come to get some lunch and sit with my laptop, the wifi has always been reliable.
The place has a chill, artsy vibe, and a friendly atmosphere, and super nice staff. I come here every week and they've always gotten my order right.

Favorites: Protein breakfast burrito, tomato mozzarella pesto sandwich (both vegetarian!)

Only complaint is that it has kind of a weird smell. Can never quite pinpoint what that is.

Great local coffee shop. Food and drinks are tasty and it’s a comfortable environment. I love their outdoor patio. They would benefit from a better system for food orders, such as giving customers a number to put on their tables. They’re often busy so the orders take a while, and I’ve had them forget my name or lose my order. It’s clearly more of an organizational/management issue than the fault of anybody working the kitchen or register.

I've been a frequent patron of PLG since year 1, back when it was still called "Gratitude Cafe" - in fact, it's still in my speed dial as such!
It's one of the only healthy options in the neighborhood. Organic ingredients, locally made bread, all put together in-shop and to order. And the best part? Everything tastes amazing!
The menu is great for adults and kids and if they have the ingredients, they'll make you whatever you want too.
The decor is hip and clean, almost "hipster" according to several of my friends who I constantly take here.
I did used to enjoy the kids play area that they had before they built the bar, my son loved coming to hang out there while we waited for the food on a busy day; now that the spot is much smaller and harder to get to, we usually just call ahead and take it to go - PLG is so popular, it's nearly impossible to get a table on the weekends (not a problem if you don't mind taking to go, which I don't).
My only complaint is that they're too nice to the people who park at a table with their laptop for the entire day - there's limited space as it is, and these people take a full table to play on their computers while ordering nothing more than a coffee. Throw a time limit on them, or at least make them order something first!

How am I only reviewing this now? Oh well, better late than never.

So I would often tell people that I work in PLG (the name of the neighborhood that this coffeehouse is located in). The response that I would get would often be like- "Oh my God, I love your coffee shop." So I guess a lot of people maybe roll through the area and don't quite realize that PLG's name is associated with the neighborhood. Oh well, now you know, if you didn't.

First off, the atmosphere. This place was our sanctuary coming from work. There really were not many other options around in this part of Brooklyn. Despite being usually busy, PLG was often a welcome, and not terribly loud, reprieve. The interior is welcoming. During the warmer months of the year, the outdoor seating comes with shade from nearby trees. It's perfect if you're looking to people or dog-watch as you enjoy your beverage.

The sandwiches never disappoint, although I never had them terribly often. Please be aware, occasionally they might be a bit slow if you're ordering during the lunch rush. This shouldn't come as a surprise. However, if you're off for the day and want to relax and work in the cafe for a project, this is a less important factor.

If you have children, they have a nice assortment of organic juices, etc. The teas are always smooth and soothing. Apparently they have great smoothies but I have sadly not yet had one.

Coffee? Pretty solid. working or living in the neighborhood? It should be out on the counter but be sure to grab a rewards card. It fills up pretty quickly even if you're only coming by once per week.

Staff is always friendly and courteous. Give it a shot. It's a pretty solid option.

Great food. Okay coffee. They raised their prices and are now too expensive for my taste. Its always a bit crowded and they are very loud people or invasive people. Not the greatest place to work on your laptop, if that's what you're looking for. But a good spot to catch up with a friend and chill in their outdoor seating area.

I come to Brooklyn a couple of times a year, and have found my new favorite spot. I had an americano and spinach and feta turnover. Both were delicious. Also, the vibe was perfect. People working on laptops, moms with kids, a few other tourists - everyone seemed at home.

Smoothies were watery and pricey at $8.15 taxes included. The turkey avocado sandwiche was delicious and filling and reasonable priced at $10.00. There was outdoor seating and many patrons were on their laptops working.

This place is like the "Cheers" of Lefferts Gardens. Great, community vibe. Unique decor. Perfect coffee and the most delicious breakfast sandwiches (egg and cheese on a fresh croissant for less than $5!).

Perfect place to meet up with friends or to bring a laptop and get work done.

A true community coffee shop, run by a local family that lives in the neighborhood. They started with a Kickstarter campaign that was very well supported by everyone around (back in 2014 we were all desperate for a place with good coffee --- now there are lots of options).

They have smoothies, good wifi, free newspapers and magazines, and even a little play area with toys for kids. Perfect!

A community staple that serves a damn good cup of coffee in a relaxed homey setting. The sandwiches are great, free wifi and a hipster every five feet, what else can you ask for.

Have loved this place since before moving to plg. In fact, it might be part of the reason we moved to plg.

A couple of things:
- the laptop users really take over at times. As a family of four, it's really hard to find space among the many open, single seats between laptops, usually occupied by coats or bags, to sit and order brunch. Can you develop a stricter policy? The lapsquatters are all sitting there with empty coffees anyway.
- is there a way to fix the mug situation? We really hate having to use paper cups during the busy periods. It's not inviting or ecologically responsible.
- the name! It's not the current owner's fault but plgchat is a mouthful and nobody calls it that. We all call it Gratitude. Forget that place in California! Can we get an equally fabulous name if Gratitude can't make a comeback?

Coffee was ok, but no eggs past noon? Skip this place and go to any corner store/deli surrounding. If you don’t, bring a laptop, knit a beanie, and hem your pants, ankles have to be showing!

I actually love the coffee, food, and service. However, as someone who goes to coffee shops to get work done on my laptop, it can get incredibly crowded and distracting at times. Coffee is on point, though.

Cool spot. Quiet. Def a place for coffee and doing work on your laptop. The food is standard. Good for a quick bite.

Great coffee shop and excellent place to just read a book or get some work done online. Very strong wifi service.
