i have heard many people having a bad experince and luckily i did not had any of that though i could see the reason why they might have had one
Mains was great. loved it. can comeback for it.
spanish iced latte was brilliant too.
though my hot drink was not that great. just okay.
they could work a bit on service since it seemed a bit not so welcoming.
I visited KUP for a casual evening outing, and it turned out to be a really pleasant experience. The ambience was warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. The café is very well maintained, with beautiful aesthetics and comfortable seating options, both indoors and outdoors.
We tried the pasta, KUP Special Coffee, chicken burger, and tortilla chip nachos. The nachos were my absolute favourite! Unlike the regular Doritos-style nachos served at many places, KUP offers freshly made in-house tortilla chips, which were crispy, flavourful, and absolutely delicious. It's always a delight to find places that serve authentic tortilla chips, and KUP definitely exceeded my expectations.
Within the same premises, there's also an ice cream shop with a wide variety of flavours. I tried the chocolate flavour, and it was rich and delicious as well.
The café offers good parking facilities, the food was served on time, and the overall experience was smooth and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good food, a relaxing atmosphere, and a lovely evening out. Looking forward to visiting again! 😊
A Slice of the Americana Diner Vibe in Chennai
The moment you walk in, the crisp red-and-white theme instantly channels a nostalgic, Five Guys-esque energy—laying down a seriously cool, laid-back vibe.
The food largely holds its own. The fries are a standout: perfectly golden, with a seasoned crust that brings a genuinely great kick. The burger is beautifully flavorful and well-sauced, though it does play it a bit safe; it lacks that signature, fiery sting you expect from a classic, elite bird sandwich. Rounding out the sides, the tenders and jalapeño cheese balls are decent, dependable crowd-pleasers.
The absolute showstopper, however, is the Mango Shake. It is absolutely exquisite—rich, beautifully balanced, and the perfect finish to a solid meal.
Been to kup Nungambakkam couple of times especially for their hot chocolate but recent times i have been wanting to go to kup alwarpet because I love the ambience of the restaurant. An old house converted into a restaurant has it's charm, it's cosy and warm. A minimalist dream come true interiors , it goes upto the food and menu. We tried tawa mutton roast with hummus , japanese Chicken sando and kulcha with butter chicken. Really liked the hummus , this is the second visit and ordered again. We usually come to kup for some short eats or only beverages sometime after dinner. Always loved the vibe of this place. Budan house , has my heart <3
The coffee here is the best I’ve had in Chennai. I ordered an iced latte which was on point. They serve a lot of single origin specialty coffee here. The ambience is cozy and comforting. Food however is below average. I ordered a pad kra Pao which came as a watery stew instead of the stir fry it’s supposed to be. So may not eat here again but will definitely come for coffee.
Had lunch here after an event on Sunday.Place was crowded and even though there was seating outside the weather was too hot to even consider it. Finally got a table and had the most juiciest Grilled Creole chicken and mashed potatoes served with veggies.
Hate the fact that people just sit and wile away time at cafés even after finishing their food which diminishes the chances of us even getting a table.
I am Hyderabadi & Whenever I visit Chennai will not miss this place.
I Love Hot Chocolate here & no where we wound found such taste & thickness.
Antique old building moderated as a restaurant & well maintained , the electric switch boxes take me to my old house memories.
Typical menu - lay man cannot understand much & I suggest management to keep it simple.
If you’re looking for a place to sit endlessly and have deep, peaceful conversations, this spot does the job. Silence? Perfect. Ambience? Great. Food? Let’s just say… manage your expectations.
Even the basics somehow miss the mark—the chicken tendor didn’t feel quite right, and the coffee… oh, that deserves its own moment. There’s an entire section dedicated to “no milk” coffee with fancy, intriguing flavor descriptions, but what actually arrives tastes suspiciously like a regular americano trying to cosplay as something more sophisticated.
It’s definitely on the pricier side, and if you’re going alone, be prepared—it might just burn a hole in your pocket and leave you questioning your life choices halfway through your cup. Perfect for conversations, questionable for everything else.
A place that’s slowly becoming our little reading haven 📚
Instagram : @the.pageturnerclub
The food and beverages here are consistently good—comforting, fresh, and just what you need while getting lost in a book.
What makes it even more special is the vibe—calm, cozy, and perfect for conversations. It’s where our book club gathers, and somehow, the stories feel richer when shared here.
If you’re looking for a spot to unwind, read, or just enjoy good company, this one’s worth it.
I didn’t like the atmosphere, especially the garden seating arrangement.Cats were roaming around our table, sitting very close to us,and constantly watching us while we were eating. This made us feel very uncomfortable and even scared at times.
At one point, the cats jumped onto our table and started playing with another cat, which was extremely disturbing and unhygienic.Because of this,we had to finish our food in a hurry and leave the place.
The management should maintain a separate area for cats,so customers can dine comfortably without fear or disturbance.
Food review:
Butter chicken & kulcha combo – Worst 👎
The gravy was not good, the chicken didn’t seem fresh, and there was no proper masala infusion in chicken.
Kulcha taste like pita bread....
Filter coffee👎
It didn’t taste like authentic filter coffee instead,it's very foamy and felt like machine-made coffee.
French fries – Good👍
Overall, the experience was disappointing mainly due to hygiene concerns....
Parking
Inside there is only a place for two to three cars....
We were on the look out for place to work while having a quick snack and we’re glad we happened on this place. Spacious for us to plop our laptop and work. We had the roasted hazelnut coffee, Tamil Nadu fries, biscoff lotus shake, matcha tea and the Mr and Mrs Pesto open toast. No complaints. Absolutely loved the food. And I loved the fact that we didn’t have to interact too much with others as the service was all no contact from ordering to paying. Highly recommend.
Went to Cup recently and honestly, everything felt very average to below average. The food lacked taste, and most of the menu seemed to be just fried items. Overall, the experience wasn’t great and didn’t feel worth it for me. Wouldn’t recommend.
It has a young vibe. Graced by couples and soft music, Kup is housed in a small lane. Thankfully, there's valet parking but the car is parked some distance away because it took time to arrive when we finished.
Smart posters and out of the box thinking on discounts - do a 1000 steps and get a free peach tea or if you know who the owner is ( you have to provide proof!) you get 10% off.
Light grey walls and some startup founder busily coding in the verandah. We were a little lost when we walked in because there's no billing counter. Or anyone to guide us.
The cafe was full but a table opened up in a few minutes and we settled in.
There's a lot to go through on the menu. We went for the Tamilnadu Podi fries. Thankfully, little oil and crisp on the outside
Calcutta Paneer Chow, a new introduction had little cubes of browned paneer in the gravy. The long grain rice soaked in the gravy went well together.
Ordered an open Paneer Burji Sandwich. A little bland and again, not the typical spicy flavour.
The Peach Ice tea and Mocha were fine.
It appears to be a popular place and the ambience, the decor and the furnishings are all well put together
Lots to experiment with and we should give Kup a few more tries for sure
It was my first visit to KUP, beautiful ambience, very aesthetic and great service, staff were very sweet.
The variety of beverages, especially coffee is surreal. A real haven for caffeine lovers. Food was good too, but strongly recommended them to increase the portion size of the foods. Value for money would be better with bigger portions, taste is good though. Definitely Cafe worthy of a visit. ✨
Went there for a quick evening catch up. Tried Sam’s favourite, Mexican cheese dust fries (quantity was very good), and vanilla citrus cake (yumm yumm) all of them were so good.
The ambience is very well maintained and good. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Pet friendly space.
Overall had a peaceful evening✨
KUP has a calm and cozy ambience tucked away in quieter streets of Alwarpet. It seems like an old bungalow revamped into a cafe.
Since we went on a weekday night, we were literally one group among two there.
The food was decent, not extraordinary as such, minor improvements can be made. It’s extremely overpricey for the quality of food they serve. Portions are a good amount though. Thankfully we got a good deal on zomato so we booked before hand.
This is a beautiful place, like the ambience here.. Food is good, really like the matcha here.. A little difficult to get the seats indoor, plan your time.
Was here on new years. Great ambience at this place, loved that they are all digital. Their pesto pasta was superb and a must have. The sweet potato fries was quite appetising as well. The bhoot jolokia sandwich was phenomenal, definitely worth trying for people who enjoy spicy food. The hot chocolate and cold brew were great as well. The only downside was Mexican dusted fries which seemed like being dusted with way too much Mexican powder, making it hard to eat !!! Great cafe to visit in Chennai !!!
A beautiful coffee shop! They've done absolute justice to the place. I've always loved the coffee here and it was spectacular. I've never heard of a cherry mocha before so I had to try it and it was lovely. The black coffee was superb! Definitely a must visit place for coffee 😁
Every dish we ordered was lip smackingly good ,especially the Muttonroast and Prawn moilee ,throughly enjoyed the meal, looking forward to the next visit.
An amazing place! The Cold Coffee is honestly one of the best I have had ♥️ The staff are so welcoming, it feels like you’re a part of the community effortlessly! Ms. Kim is great at hosting, tell her your likes and I can vouch you’ll love the suggestions ! A Must Visit if you’re in Chennai 🥰
I mean, this place looked more like a workspace rather than a cafe. The moment I and my husband entered, the vibe felt so serious!! There was no life! Everybody were with their laptop. So if you are thinking that you are coming here to hang out with your friends or have some good time, I don't think this is a good idea because this is a very serious kind of place. Every table had a person with laptop or it was either a office meeting or some workshop going on here. Better than this is to go to DOU or to any other cafe nearby. But this place really looked so dull!! And plus, there were nobody around. You just had to look where should you go, ask somebody what to do, where to sit. There was a way that said, "this way to the first floor". So we thought maybe there's a dining over there. We went to the first floor, and there were three doors on the corridor. And we didn't know where to go because none of the door had any instruction or any name on it. And suddenly we entered a door, and there were like six, seven people sitting in a common kind of room, and they were discussing something with laltops and all, and they looked at us so strangely that It felt like we interrupted them. So we closed the door. The other room we went, it was a play area for children. But nowhere it was written that it's a play area or something like that. It was so confusing that we came back down, and we were like, let's just sit down. Before sitting also, when we reached the table, it said, reserved, okay. I thought it was really reserved. So I moved to the next table. There also they had this reserved, you know, writing on the table. But then when I was like, how everything says reserved, then when I read the whole thing, it was like, reserved by your ex!!! I mean, come on, dude!!
I found this cafe really rude!!. Or I think in the aim of being very cool, this was too much that they did. This much coolness is also not needed. Like literally when we took a parcel bag, it just said, "SHUT UP & DRINK!"What is this, dude? Come on.
And when I went to the washroom, it said we need to maintain because it's a washroom and all that, which is good, but at the end it said.. "And by the way, cute bum" What is this, yaar? I mean, how can you, I mean, this was so ill. I just didn't like this. And I didn't like anything over here. Plus, the jalapeno balls we took for 380 rupees. I thought that there must be some presentation that would have been very nice or something so much that they're charging this much. Just eight balls, small jalapeno balls, and they charge for 380 rupees.
That was so pricey. And the other one was ramen we took. It was okay. It was good, only one pok choy was there, little bit of mushrooms, more of the curry, and more of the noodles. I quite didn't like this place. I don't know how this place got so much reviews and all. But I think it's better if you keep something funny, and at the same time, if you keep something that pleases people other than irritate people. Lot of places had these kind of proverbs that I think it is just to be seen as a cool person, but it did not, you know, it was not cool.
It was one of my worst experiences at Kup. I have taken so many family members and guests over given their splendid food and service. However, I was extremely disappointed the last time we went. I took some guests around 11pm and they seated us outdoors despite the whole place being empty indoors. The brownie cold coffee and Milo shake were absolutely pathetic, they weren't even cold. On the other hand, the food was extremely cold and the waiters weren't helpful at all. I was a regular at Kup, but I will think twice before taking someone there.
DO NOT TRUST THE 4.2★ RATING. Seriously.
This has to be one of the worst restaurant service experiences I’ve ever had. The rating is honestly shocking after experiencing the kind of service this place provides.
The staff have zero basic hospitality skills. Forget good service — they don’t even seem to understand the absolute basics. We had to ask for water. We had to ask for the menu. We had to repeatedly get their attention for basic things that any decent restaurant should provide without being asked.
And the worst part? The way they treat customers seems to depend on what they order. There was a very clear difference in the attention and attitude given to customers based on their orders. If you’re not ordering enough according to their expectations, apparently you’re not worth their time. That is an absolutely pathetic way to treat paying customers.
The attitude was unbelievably poor. No warmth, no attentiveness, no professionalism, and absolutely no sense that customer experience matters.
A restaurant can have good food, a fancy ambience and thousands of reviews — none of that excuses treating customers like they’re an inconvenience.
Honestly, the 4.2★ rating gave me completely wrong expectations. After this experience, I genuinely don’t understand how the service is rated this highly.
If you’re thinking of going here because you saw the 4.2 stars, don’t. Go somewhere that actually values its customers and understands what basic hospitality means.
Absolutely terrible service. Extremely disappointing. Waste of time and money. Would NOT recommend this place to anyone.
Stepping into this cafe is an absolute delight! The ambience is serene and perfectly curated, offering a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The quality of the food is simply outstanding—each dish reflects their commitment to excellence.
I was particularly impressed with their thoughtful approach to the entire experience, from the elegant arrangement of the space to the modern conveniences. The seating is impeccably neat, and the peaceful environment makes it an ideal spot to relax.
One of the standout features is the seamless ordering process—just scan the QR code, place your order, and pay online. It’s a fully cashless cafe, embracing technology to make your visit hassle-free.
For families, there’s a charming separate library for kids, keeping little ones entertained. And with valet parking available, they’ve truly thought of everything to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
This is one spot you simply can’t miss!
Very bad Coconut curry Pasta, The bread was soggy as a wet tissue. And AAA Very Berry Matcha, When ordered they said it'll be sweet. But it was bitter as black coffee. When asked for making it right, they're charging me extra for it. What a substandard place. Should've gone to Pumpkin tales as always. My bad! I took a friend's suggestion and came here. The two lovely, friendly, Goofy cats were the only positive! This is my first impression and the worst as well.
Never ever coming here. Not recommending to all my followers. Such pathetic service for a request of making the dish right as per their statement.
The ambience and food were good 👍🏻 . I’ve visited this place before and the onion rings and coin parota were nice. I’m not sure if they still serve them.
Haven't tried the food so cannot comment on it.
Decor: There is this trend of older houses being converted to cafes/restaurants in central Chennai and this is one of them. It's been done tastefully. Has a couple of indoor and a few different outdoor areas to pick from. If you are intending to work from here, a couple of outdoor seatings that I came across had power points. The coffee bar is nice but the music is too loud for my liking.
Coffee: The coffee is just as good as at their first outlet in Nungambakkam.
Service: My experience was great, despite it being at a slightly lean hour and there is nothing that suggested to me that this place would have bad service even when packed to the rafters.
Parking: they have valet service which is an absolute must since it's in a very narrow lane and self parking would never have worked.
Marked it a 4 since I haven't really tried the food and experienced busy hour service. Will update after I do that.
I love their ambience and food. However, their consistency is a little off compared to their other outlet. But during this current visit whatever we ordered was delicious. The staff is very courteous and prompt with their service.
Cozy ambience. Simple decor and tastefully done.
I first asked for a hot chocolate caramel and it was a thick dark brown shake!! And tooooo chocolatey.
So changed order it to Kashmiri Kahwa which was ok.
The paneer burji open toast was too good.
But the beet ricotta was disappointing as it was too sour. The bread was also hard.
Service was decent.
Nice place to chill and hang out.
The spread on the menu looks interesting
This review is specifically for the “Brioche French Toast.” I’ve had it multiple times, and it turns out different each time. The brioche slice isn’t consistently soaked well in the milk–egg–cream mixture, which affects the texture and taste.
KINDLY ensure it’s soaked properly for at least 10 minutes — that makes all the difference!
Good food | Aesthetic | Pricey.
Having seen too many reels, I decided to visit KUP for lunch. And this is a cafe that knows to market its stuff! They have their own line of merch which is quite rare in the Chennai cafe scene.
Coming to their menu, I loved their specials - the menu is very artfully curated with ingredients sourced from different regions, each having a unique attribute to them.
The taste of their dishes was brilliant, and the portions adequate. However, as a place touting coffee as their specialty, I believe the drinks were definitely overpriced. Their specials were priced at 340/- or higher, which is too much for a cup of coffee, regardless of the quality.
We tried their Chilli Cheest Toast - which had the softest bread! And their fries were amazing too!
Their basque cheesecake stood out and definitely delivered!
They have an open terrace seating, however it wasn’t open in the afternoon, but should make for a nice spot for the evenings.
A new place with some specially coffee and food.
The good
- great environment for a gathering
- assorted menu of coffee and eatables
- order via mobile, pay via mobile and just get served. Very much digital place in the locality and I prefer this over ordering manually
- variety of coffee choices
- extremely fast service
- have options like special room with an interactive touch tv that one can play some games when hanging out
- same room can be taken for conference and office meetings
- food is very good and they do have some spicy sides for dips.
The can be better
- forget parking
- mosquito was there even inside the small room
- the room also hosts their store room and hence there was constant disturbance from staff.
- mosquito from the store room flooded the side room
- cost wise it is on the north side of cost in this locality
- expect spending 2k for 4 people for a coffee and a snack.
Overall a good place for someone wanting to try something new.
Coffee and other drinks were the highlight of our meal. The burgers were overcooked and the meat was chewy like rubber. The washroom was very dirty, there wasn't even handwash soap in men's restroom. Electric wires were coming out of switch boards. At the time of billing, we had some technical issue with our card, the payment didn't go through a couple of times, when we asked the server to try once again with the card, they were very rude and impatient. When we asked for an alternate option to pay using UPI, they said they don't accept UPI
Ignore this place if you're an NRI who doesn't have online payments set up.
Some of the staff don't understand or respond in English or tamil. I was asked to order using my phone and had to pay the 10% service charge which is usually optional in all the other places in chennai. On top of which I had to pay the transaction charges that would not have happened if I had just paid directly using chip and pin.
Although I saw others order and pay directly, for some reason I was asked to pay online.
The tamilnadu fries was just dosa chutney powder sprinkled over fries, which was a bit average. They gave ketchup as a side to the already spicy fries. They refused to give a small tub of mayonese for free ! I was asked to pay again, with a 10% surcharge which I refused.
I don't have a problem paying it if the service was actually good. But to bring something from the kitchen to the table shouldn't require a 10% surcharge whilst the items are already heavily overpriced.
The panini sandwich was pretty good and fresh. The coffee wasn't that great either.
Even if i am given a chance to eat for free over here, I'd definitely refuse the offer.
KUP coffee 2nd brunch is opened in Alwapet. It was so~ good. They have a good ambience, good taste of coffee literally.
I loved this KUP coffee in Nungambakkam, but there was so far from me. But I'm so happy that 2nd is closer to me.
They had a good think, and they made it a reality for men, women, kids and pets.
I'd like to give a big hand.👏🏻
I left my charger over there by mistake and then called them to ask about it and they said they couldn't find it and then I went and spoke to them in person and they said they'll check and get back to me. I again went another day and another person said it's with someone else and collect it tomorrow. The third time I went he wasn't there. Finally the 4th time I got it back. For a charger I had to travel 4 times and make 10 calls . Also the food isn't great.
The food was absolutely amazing and full of flavor! Loved the warm and attentive service, and the vibes of the place made the experience even better. The quality truly stands out – highly recommend this spot!
This cafe is perfect. The calm atmosphere is right up my alley.
I ordered pour-over coffee and chose beans according to professional barista recommendation.
It was amazing coffee with perfect balance with acidity and citrus flower flavor.
I felt acidity at both the tip and along the side of my tongue as a pleasant sharpness.
You can get speciality coffee beans.
Kup is a delightful gem for coffee enthusiasts! What sets them apart is their dedicated building where they brew, experiment, and perfect their coffee craft. The ambiance is equally captivating—set in a cozy bungalow with charming outdoor seating that exudes warmth and comfort.
Kup’s unique offering lies in their in-house coffee beans, each with distinct tasting notes and roast styles. Their creativity truly shines through in their menu.
The Mango Tonic Brew was an adventurous pick—it had this refreshing gin-and-tonic-like vibe, elevated with a subtle mango infusion. A unique twist I didn’t know I needed! The Roasted Hazelnut Frappe was another standout—smooth, nutty, and perfectly balanced. And let’s talk about the Sticky Toffee Pudding—it was absolutely divine! Rich, gooey, and indulgent, it left me wanting more.
Overall, Kup delivers a great coffee experience, and I’m already looking forward to heading back to explore more of their intriguing coffee varieties. This place is a must-visit for coffee lovers seeking something a little out of the ordinary!
People are freely smoking in non-smoking areas. Then why the hell do you have kids Library on the first floor. It’s disgusting to see the young minor people smoking near the entrance. Are we expected to experience this bullshit every time we enter and exit and make our tiny kids get exposed to this. The staffs are simply standing and not requesting the smoking people to move aside to the corner (designated smoking area)
KUP Café is a cozy spot with a calm vibe and well-made coffee. The ambience is pleasant, making it a nice place to relax or catch up with friends.
We waited 45 minutes only to find out that our order had been missed entirely, which was pretty frustrating. I understand things get busy, but there was no update during the wait, so we only realized after checking in ourselves.
The one big plus is that the café is pet-friendly—I was able to bring my puppy along, which I really appreciated.
That said, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the space felt relaxed and good for conversation. With better order management and clearer communication, this place could be much better.
Great ambience! and good coffee! A perfect spot for working in the mornings and a date spot at night! The small store inside has some really good smelling candles.
I absolutely love this place, the food and coffee is really good. I tried a couple of things but the French toast and matcha was to for for. I loved the overall vibe. One should definitely try:)
Loved the vibe. The drinks were all so good! Irish cold brew was my favourite! Its such comfortable place to work from! Highly recommend!
I stumbled upon the new branch of KUP coffee roaster in Alwarpet and I'm so glad I did! The ambiance is warm and inviting, with comfortable seating and minimalist decor. The coffee is expertly brewed, and the pastries are freshly baked. The staff is friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home.
There was no listing for superdog so posting it here since they are coming from KUP. The burger was 400 bucks and what a scam this is. I would compare it with a basic burger from mcdonalds. Taste was probably a 2.5/5. I bet most will be disappointed when they see it and probably more disappointed after tasting it.
Ordered 4 coffe drinks none of them were nice. All of had a very dark bitter note. Food was very average but pricey. The only positive thing was that it’s pet friendly to a level.
Even though we reserved a table , waited for 30 minutes to get a table, since some party going on.
Food was pretty average and not upto hype. Ambience is good . Service bit slow
