Really good café with affordable prices and great-tasting food. The quality and taste are consistently good, which makes it worth visiting. It does get quite crowded in the evenings, so finding a seat can be difficult. The service is also a little slow, especially during busy hours. Overall, a good place for tasty food at reasonable prices.

Sakthiv P01.11.2026

Nice place with really good ambience and reasonable prices. The food and overall experience were good. Just one small thing I noticed – two staff members were eating in the kitchen area in front of customers. It would be better if staff take their meals in a separate area. Overall still a good place to visit.

Writers Cafe VR Mall is a cozy spot that perfectly blends books, food, and comfort. The burgers here are truly superb—juicy, flavorful, and served fresh with a perfect balance of ingredients. Their desserts are equally delightful, offering a sweet finish that feels indulgent yet satisfying. The warm ambiance, filled with shelves of books and calm vibes, makes it a great place to relax, read, or catch up with friends. Whether you’re craving a hearty burger or a delicious dessert, this café delivers a memorable and comforting experience every time.

We wanted to celebrate women's day so seated our selves in this cafe and treated ourselves to a wonderful dinner. Pizza and sandwich. Enjoyed the meal. Since it was a weekend it was crowded. The waiters took time to take the orders. The orders took time to be delivered. We just had to wait.

Deeksha Tripathi01.11.2026

I went for dinner here, it is close to the pvr side of mall, had a classic latte which was decent, and also had detroit style bbq cheese paneer pizza which had really thick base topping were okayish not as depicted in the images. Over all price were decent as per cafe's popularity and ambience was just normal like any other outlet in the mall.

Leenu S01.11.2026

Ordered a veg burger, they had only 1 option in veg burger section, which is not worth the hype.. they have many option in menu for appetisers. But disappointment with service, burger and beverage. So I ordered hazelnut drink and they took order. Since hazelnut is not available they just casually brought Irish drink and simply said we don’t have hazelnut hence I mixed Irish which is not acceptable from my end.

They should have asked before bringing to table or while taking the order..

Pizza & appetisers was good with taste.. Also there’s leakage from AC 🥲

Had an amazing experience at Writer's Café, VR Chennai. Had the Original (grilled chicken, sour cream, jalapeño and caramelised onion) and Tricolor Flammkuchen (tomato, crème fraîche, Pesto, capsicum and caramelised onion). Both were yummylicious 😋😍. Sticky Lemon Chicken was delicious. Cajun Potato Wedges were yumm😋. Also, tried the Loaded Double Cheese Detroit Style Pizza ❤️.

ShweRaki01.11.2026

We dropped in for dinner it provides plenty of veg and non veg options, we ordered veg pizza, cheese pullout and grilled chicken burger which was quite filling and delicious

DONT VISIT THIS PLACE!
If you’re in VR, this is the worst place to grab some bites or a coffee. First things first, they take ages to take your order. The staffs argue between themself. The cashier is super rude and arrogant with their behaviour. There were other guests from other tables who faced the same issues. The food doesn’t reach to you at all. You have to literally beg them and ask them 100 times for your food. Ordered for a chicken bite but got fried chicken which is also available in the menu. Ordered for a black tea and had to beg for sugar sachets. Ordered some bites and begged for tissues and cutlery. The place is super stuffy and the AC didn’t work at all. It’s understandable when thenplace is crowded but not acceptable to be rude for being questioned why orders are late. Worst place to ever stop by. Writer’s cafe has lost it’s charm entirely. Please change the staff to not lose loyal customers!

Vinitha Venkatesha01.11.2026

I ordered for Ramen bowl which is Rs.305 and it was literally Maggie and a few (6-7 tiny pieces) zucchini, carrot and three tiny pieces of mushroom and a lot of sweet corn and sprinkled roasted onions. Which is literally like knorr soupy noodles. What's the value you give for the customer I'm just ammussed

Rahul N01.11.2026

Absolutely horrible and shitty customer service. We ordered four items and each arrived within 30 minutes of each other. Even the Tiramisu which he could've just taken from the shelf and given, took like 40 minutes. The mango with sticky rice was too less in quantity as well one felt stupid having it.

Dinesh Kumar (Dinesh Karthik)01.11.2026

If you're into international dishes, this place will blow you away! The flavors are absolutely amazing — every bite feels like a trip around the world. Once you've been here, you're definitely going to come back again and again. My wife is a huge fan — it's her top favorite spot to dine.

1. *** Sticky lemon chicken & Cheesy chicken Must try ***
2. Chicken Mac & Cheese taste was good but put on top fried chicken is unexpected. lol
3. Fish burger too oily and not so good, very low marks

Coming from the F&B industry myself, I have to say the food is top-notch, but there's room for improvement in service. Also, the seating area could be expanded to handle peak times better.

Overall, it's a fantastic place for foodies. Great taste, good vibes. Will visit again soon.

anju01.11.2026

Writers Cafe is more than just a cafe—it's a haven for both writers and readers alike. As a frequent visitor, I’ve always found the place to be a perfect blend of inspiration and comfort. This time, I dined at their VR Mall outlet, and as always, the experience did not disappoint.

The menu offers an impressive selection, all of which are surprisingly affordable without compromising on taste or portion sizes. We tried the Egg and Chicken Ramen, which was an absolute treat—rich, savory, and perfectly balanced. The Thai Chicken Wings were crispy and packed with authentic, bold flavors, while the Butter Garlic Chicken Rice was creamy and aromatic, just what you need for a satisfying meal.
Also didn’t miss out on their special hot chocolate 🤩
Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or settling in for a few hours of reading or writing, Writers Cafe delivers consistently in both food and ambiance. It’s the ideal spot to fuel your creativity while enjoying a delicious meal! Highly recommend it for anyone looking for good food, great vibes, and a welcoming space for creative minds.
Ps - my go to writers has always been the egmore branch !

Bhavani Dinesh01.11.2026

Very disappointed with my experience at Writers Cafe, VR Mall yesterday.

I ordered 2 Blueberry Pies and 2 Almond Croissants for takeaway and was charged ₹665, including ₹30 for packaging. While a staff member was carefully packing my order, the person at the billing counter rudely shouted at her, snatched the items, and repacked the food with his bare hands, without wearing gloves. This is unacceptable for ready-to-eat food.

Despite charging ₹30 for packaging, I was initially given only a brown cover and told that paper bags were "out of stock." After I questioned it, a paper bag was eventually provided.

The attitude of the billing staff towards both his colleague and customers was disappointing. I expect better hygiene, professionalism, and transparency from Writers Cafe. Please train your staff accordingly.

Goutham Gowrishankar01.11.2026

Recently i went there, and the food was good. But when i asked for extra mayonnaise they refused to give me, which is very disappointing.
Also i was sweating not sure about A.C's working condition.
it feels a bit crowded due to the mall.
Overall the food is good. But if you want a spacious and quiet place to chill you can consider other writers'cafe branches.

Trisha Ghosh01.11.2026

As a true food lover and someone who appreciates ambiance just as much as taste, Writer’s Cafe in VR Mall, Chennai, completely won me over! Nestled in one corner of the mall’s bustling upper floor, this cozy café is a hidden gem for anyone looking to unwind with a book and indulge in delicious, soul-satisfying food.

The café has a charming literary vibe — warm lighting, bookshelves, and wooden interiors create the perfect escape from the chaos of the mall. Whether you're with friends or on a solo date with your journal, the setting feels intimate and inspiring.

Now coming to the food — absolutely delightful! Their pasta (especially the creamy Alfredo) is rich and perfectly cooked. The desserts, especially the gooey chocolate cake and baked cheesecake, are a must-try. You can tell everything is made with quality ingredients. Their coffee? Bold, flavorful, and satisfying — just what you need for an afternoon pick-me-up or creative brainstorming session.

The staff is courteous and patient, and they allow you to sit and work or read for a while without rushing you. Prices are quite reasonable for a café in a mall setting, especially considering the quality and presentation of the food.

What makes it even more meaningful is its association with social causes, employing acid attack survivors and promoting literature. That makes every visit feel like you're supporting something good.

A must-visit spot in Chennai for any food enthusiast or café hopper! Will definitely return.

Anuja Irin Lakra01.11.2026

It’s a popular spot with a lively atmosphere. Though it can get a bit crowded, the food is good and the service is friendly and efficient. A place worth visiting! ❤️‍🔥

Bravo Anshaz01.11.2026

Writers Cafe has always been one of my go-to spots in VR Mall. Their Korean cheese bun is absolutely amazing — soft, cheesy, and full of flavor! I’ve also been a long-time fan of their hot chocolate , but unfortunately, on my recent visit, it didn’t taste as good as it used to. Quite disappointing compared to their usual standards. Still, the ambiance and other offerings keep the place worth visiting. Hope they bring back the original hot chocolate magic!

Akanksha Bharti01.11.2026

There should be more cafes like this where you can read and write, do your work, buy stuff along with having good food.

Arjun Thangarasu01.11.2026

We had a great experience trying the Peri Peri French fries, Chicken BBQ Pizza, Pasta, and Virgin Mojito. The Madras BBQ Chicken Pizza truly stole the show - it was top-notch and a must-try! The ambience was lovely, and the service was also nice. While the French fries were good, the Virgin Mojito fell a bit short of expectations. Overall, we'd definitely recommend this place for its delicious food and pleasant atmosphere.

Don't try Fizzy orange (it's mentioned as must try in menu card,so we tried and disappointed) card) and there is no hand wash, you have to use restroom in the mall.

Rakhshintha N01.11.2026

A great cafe to fulfill your sugar cravings and just chill out. They have brownies of good quality loaded with rich chocolate. I love their wide range of options to choose from. The only disadvantage of this shop is that it is located in the pathway right where people enter the floor and walk towards the food court. You'll be looked over by hawk eyes all the time, and you'll have to forget about your peace due to the loud noise that will surround you. There's a bookstore right next to the cafe and you can check out that one as well. Regarding the price and quantity, I would say that the desserts are always on the pricier side and the portions are not worth the price.

Nithu S01.11.2026

I've been here and i loved their pizzas and french toasts. Though their quantity be low, quality has been good in the past.

Recently I went on a weekday eve around 5pm they were customers though. I ordered for a chicken boom burger. It was a bun ,small splash of mayo, roughly sliced thin fried rubbery chicken pieces i assume (can't even say patty). I asked them about it . They said it's chicken thighs and that's how it is and I paid 268 rupees for nothing. They are bad. Would not recommend anybody.

Vijay Kumar01.11.2026

Amazing place. staff making some mouth watering culinary classics. Clean, chilled out, busy but always serving amazing food. Pantries chicken and meet potatoes with the freshesed vegetables followed by an awesome Ice cream milk shake,The cost is reasonably low. A must visit place when your in VR mall

mayank kumar parakh01.11.2026

Great cafe to visit . Situate in the food court of VR mall and the food here is great. Have been to other writers cafe and the food sure never disappoints at any of these branches. Their Mac and Cheese and pastas are great so is their flammkuchens are lively too. The coffees taste amazing !!!! Good cafe at a decent price totally worth it !!!

Kaviya Meialagan01.11.2026

Tried the regular hot chocolate and the Writers special hot chocolate. The writers special hot chocolate quantity is less for the price being that it is made of pure chocolate and no added milk. The taste was good but will not prefer it for the price. The regular hot chocolate has milk and better quantity for the price. The herb garlic bread was a disaster. There was no garlic nor did it taste good, just a brush of oil and chilli flakes on a baguette. Very much disappointed with the overall experience as there are better places that serve pure hot chocolate and garlic bread.
The place is also not that clean, the dustbin is right next to seating chair.
Will not be visiting this place again.

Writer’s Café at VR Mall offers a cozy and trendy atmosphere ideal for casual dining and working on a laptop. Located on the 3rd floor of VR Chennai Mall, it serves a variety of international dishes with great coffee, tea, and desserts, including excellent vegetarian options. The café is popular for lunch and dinner (since it’s in mall trying their breakfast is not possible )

Service options include dine-in, takeout, delivery, and catering, with reservations recommended for lunch. Payment is convenient with credit/debit cards and mobile payments. Overall, it’s a well-rounded café that balances good food, great beverages, and a comfortable space, making it a favorite spot in the mall

The price is bit high but worth for every penny ,, their berry blast is my fav drink and it will be soo good for berry lovers , their pizzas and pastas are damn good .. overall worth it

Sangeetha Gangadharan01.11.2026

Situated in the food court of VR mall. The place looks cozy. The staff were polite and the service was good except for the fact that we had to wait for one of our order for a long time and had to remind a different staff to get that order. No one else attended us even when we were seated for a long time after our initial foods.

Loved the hot chocolate. The signature writer’s cafe hot chocolate had hot chocolate and hits the perfect sweet spot. It’s a Must try. The Baked mac and cheese was also good.

The writer’s cafe peri peri fried chicken was soo good. Too juicy and the spice was just perfect. My husband loved it. The only let down was grilled chicken and the butter rice. It was not up to the marj and just was okayish.

Meenakumari N01.11.2026

The menu is good and the food is decent for what we pay. I wish the service can be better. They staff was polite and helpful but had to keep requesting often. They can be more thoughtful about getting cutlery, plates and number of glasses .

Vishnu priya Raghuraman01.11.2026

Writer's Cafe is a good choice for those who wish to eat lovely looking food which tastes great as well. The waiters were really hospitable.
The presentation of their desserts and baked goods is so good that you would wish to order immediately.
Taste- 👍
Ambience- 👍
Service - 👍
Menu options - 👍
Price - 👎

Extra charges for toppings is fine but they claim prices even for basic ingredients when it comes to pasta n stuff..it feels like they wantedly charge more just to create a feel that good cafes cost you more. But it still turns out as a great place if you don't mind the price but need a quiet place to eat delicious food .

SHANMUGHAPRIYA01.11.2026

Writer's cafe in VR mall is not like before How it used to be. I regularly drink hot chocolate whenever I go there but this time they suggested me something else 'writers hot chocolate' it seems.it was costly but he gave me a hype so i bought.i was very much disappointed looking at its portion and its taste,i regret badly for buying it. Then order green paste it was very very dry,i dint even eat it Fully,i left it. Like i said before, writer's cafe in VR mall is not like before.

Arjun Thavas01.11.2026

Really good place to spend casual time with friends. Must try Writer hot chocolate. It’s a delight for chocolate lovers one of the best we ever had. Along side we tried Crunchy chicken and cafe latte with hazelnut.

Md Uruj Sait01.11.2026

It was a good experience, the place is little crowded. The scrambled eggs tasted perfect, the ramen bowl was spicy but i enjoyed it. The coffee was smooth in taste (as it should be in the case of cold brew).
Seating arrangements could be better.

Majeedah Khan01.11.2026

Writer’s Fried Chicken Box: Hot, Crispy, Spicy and Juicy - and it was exactly that! Our search for the best fried chicken in Chennai has finally come to an end! The chicken was fresh, tender and fried to perfection. The seasoning was on point; light and flavourful. And the quantity of the box was definitely value for money. Overall, the Writer’s at VR is an excellent, affordable option if you don’t care much about ambience.

Parameshwar Tudu01.11.2026

♦️ENTRY FEE : ₹300 for one which is economical for the taste of the food

♦️HOW TO REACH : located on the top floor of VR Mall near the cinemas

♦️ AMENITIES: Book Store is attached to the cafe so you can visit both . Staff are attentive and the food is genuinely delicious. Would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't in a mall setup

One of my favourite place in recent times. Every week i will be there and am exploring all the branches. I visited atleast three branches. All were good except the service level. I have few negative points to add too. So read it fully.

VR Mall (Writers Cafe)
Positive points:
1. Affordable price and tasty foods
2. Service level is great
3. They updated the menu recently which is super cool and price are moderate
4. Super friendly people in VR ( Writers cafe)

Negative points:
1. They don't have restrooms and not even handwash area. I don't like to eat without washing my hands.

Gopalapuram (Writers cafe)
Positive points:
1. Affordable price and tasty foods
2. Service level is great
3. They updated the menu recently which is super cool and price are moderate

Negative points:
1. They are not welcoming and the vibe is just off. Even though they have enough seats inside they just make you wait until someone gets up from their place which is super frustrating.
2. Restrooms are not clean and they have only one for both men & women
3. They have Valet parking but that guy is not attentive. We were standing in the road and searching for him & finally went inside asked the receptionist. He was just sitting the door and busy using his phone.Receiptionist trying to call him from inside he still in his phone.. I walked up and asked for valet parking

Nachiappan Sbm01.11.2026

This cafe offers great value for money. Moderate pricing compared to other shops in the mall. Food quality and taste are good. Their Pizzas and hot chocolate are great. Very good option to eat in VR mall.

kishor gy01.11.2026

Kinda noisy atmosphere because it has open space and you can early hear their noise.

I love the service…. quite and politely

Just order their Signature dish “Writer’s cafe Signature Hot chocolate “ . It tastes as good as usual and i had tried chilli cheese fries.. wow it tastes also good.

Veena01.11.2026

A pleasant place with good food and super nice staff. It's a bustling place that is quite busy on weekends but is still a good spot for a quick bite. Their desserts from their ice creams to their tarts are a must try! There's something suitable for everyone here.

The vivacious Diva01.11.2026

Amazing food. Writers cafe never fail to disappoint. Whatever dishes I have tried so far, has tasted excellent. This is my go to in VR mall. They have very courteous staff as well.

Thaithalai01.11.2026

The ambience and food were good. However, the experience at the billing counter was disappointing.
Since there was no seating available, we waited for around 10 minutes before placing our order. When we approached the counter, we were informed that takeaway orders were not accepted.
Later, while paying the bill, I noticed another customer being allowed to place a takeaway order at the same counter. This kind of inconsistent and unprofessional behavior was disappointing. It made us feel unwelcome, and I would think twice before visiting again.

Deepika01.11.2026

Absolutely! Their signature Writer's Hot Chocolate is a must-try, and the Spaghetti Pesto is equally delicious. At ₹210 for the pasta and ₹110 for the hot chocolate, it's a great value for such fantastic flavors. Definitely recommend!

Pujaa. V01.11.2026

Writers Cafe? More like Waiters Cafe—because that’s all you’ll be doing here: waiting. The service was downright terrible. We waited forever for our food, and when we finally asked what was going on, the staff acted like we were an inconvenience. No apology, no explanation—just a blank stare. This place is so overhyped it’s ridiculous. Whatever charm they claim to have is completely lost in the awful service and painfully slow wait times. If you’re thinking about going here, don’t bother. Save yourself the headache and find a place that actually values its customers, and the mac and cheese we got tasted like water not worth for the price and taste

Mohammed Javed01.11.2026

I’ve been fan of writer’s cafe for very long time. Also visted their Gopalapuram / Egmore branch many times. This is located at VR mall nearby PVR icon. It’s a open restaurant not under closed walls like other branches. Asusual, amazing food at affordable price !

Harcharan P01.11.2026

The overall experience was great and the taste was really good

I tried hot chocolate and fig crumble pie
Hot chocolate - was decent
Fig crumble pie - was great

But try Signature Hot chocolate and blueberry crumble pie for a better experience

Maheshwaran Muthuraman01.11.2026

Guys , if u see the menu list , I have tried GRILLED CHICKEN WITH BUTTER RICE on QUICK BOWL section along with CAPPUCCINO coffee. Everything was fine, but the look and feel of the bowl was quite ORDINARY. add-ons like veggies on the rice must have been MUCH better. last but not the least SERVICE was exceptional and waiting time is around 30 minutes.

Vasanth David01.11.2026

Good quality food with some great ambience and cordial staff. The food not only is fabulous but very affordable. Moreover writers cafe also helps children with special learning abilities and autistic children. They also have various other branches allover the city! Highly recommend this place

What's Cookin01.11.2026

Writers Cafe is an excellent place for Western food. It is part of Higgin Bothams which is one of the oldest book store of not only Chennai but one of the oldest in India. The first thing one notices when entering this place is the cool quotient of the place. All branches are usually attached to a book store. Nice people always walk in and walk out of this plac

The choice of food is Western cuisines. The desserts are certainly one of the best in Chennai. My family is always part of the regular clientele of this place. It is extremely reasonable in its pricing, the quality is top notch, the service is always done with a smile, the ambience is excellent here. My choice of food is the flammenkuchen (a square pizza), the fish and chips, all the pastas, the chicken Lasagne, the Potatoes and cheese bake. All the desserts here are a must try here along with the Ice Creams, Shakes and Waffles. No wonder they have regular customers knocking on their doors. A must try place which is easy on the purse with great great quality.

JS (Sunny)01.11.2026

It's valuable for price, I can enjoy lunch and dessert. The beverages are great, too.
I ordered the customized rectangular pizza and pasta, except the vegetables that I don't like. It was great option. The dessert I ordered were croissants and e'clare carame. Highly recommend 👌

Grace studio01.11.2026

Loved my visit to Writer’s Cafe at VR Mall! The food was absolutely awesome and full of flavor. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a great bite in a cozy setting.

Pavithra R01.11.2026

Food was not that great. Certain items are crazy expensive for the taste that they offer. I ordered panner skewers which was pretty raw on the inside. It tasted not like real paneer but something mixed with corn flour. The white pasta which was not that great but it ended up costing me around 460
