Backyard

Really a nice, different concept... Loved the way things kept and decorated. Food is simple, homemade but delicious.
Very compact small place ! Can be used for exhibitions of a small scale and events.
The management is very stringent with regards to the time and charges.
Place is good for small meetings and Gatherings. Did a a music cover shoot here. The charges are nominal and they were flexible to use and alter the space. Food provided was awesome.Pricing was very less and it's homemade food. Had Ice tea, Buttermilk and few sandwiches.
We went there for a workshop by an art company, and the space was good, well lit, accessible and ventilated. We liked the classy looks of the place, and if you are looking for places to host your parties at an affordable price(1500/hr~), which is also easily accessible by all means of transportation, you can definitely try here. (Prices may change).
You can definitely reserve here.
Although the space is constricted and can only occupy people less than 30 or 25~. Parking isn't allowed inside, and you can still safely park outside the compound.
We at Chai Kings had the pleasure of catering tea, coffee, and snacks for an event hosted by Pint of View Chennai on 25th January at Backyard Cafe, Adyar. The coordination and support from the Backyard Cafe team were seamless and highly professional, making the entire event execution smooth and efficient. Pint of View Chennai also did a fantastic job in managing the event. It was a great experience collaborating with both teams, and we look forward to working together again.
A very nice and serene co working space nestled in adyar neighborhood. There are board games and books as well for those just intending to spend some together than working. The hosts are warm and friendly and there are some decent food options as well. Love the trees around the space just cooling the area down. There is also a restroom in the space.
If the chairs could be more comfortable for working it would make it perfect.
Went to Backyard for a small meet and it turned out to be a great choice. The ambience is warm and cozy, the space works well for a small group discussion without feeling cramped.
Recommended if you're looking for a place to meet, work, or just unwind in Adyar.
1-star. Do not book Cafe Backyard for any event you actually care about.
We've hosted 2 community events here, and both were mishandled in ways that go beyond bad luck. On our first booking, we were charged twice for the same payment. When we pointed it out, the cafe flatly denied receiving the first payment and refused to refund it, despite us having proof of both transactions. That alone should have been a red flag.
For the second event, the founder, Akshaya, was all warmth and responsiveness while we were finalizing the booking. That changed completely the moment money was in her hands. On the day of the event, plans shifted, as they always do with large gatherings, and we had to extend wifi access to more attendees than originally planned. That's a completely normal, manageable adjustment. Instead of handling it professionally, the founder called and started shouting, blaming us for a non-issue while we stayed calm and tried to explain. She cut me off mid-sentence, announced the call was being recorded, and hung up before I could even respond, classic behavior when someone wants to control a narrative rather than resolve a problem.
And through all of this, the AC in the venue was broken, with guests visibly sweating through the event. When we asked for the remote to fix it, we were told the founder had it with her. So the person responsible for guest comfort was actively withholding the means to fix it.
A nice-looking space cannot compensate for a founder who is unprofessional, defensive, and more interested in protecting herself than delivering a service she was paid for. Save yourself the stress and book elsewhere.
It was my first time there, an art market was on,and we spent almost 3 hours there, so colorful and vibrant, don’t miss a chance to visit
Wonderful location in the calm area, nice ambience maintained by professionals. In the first floor used to attend Jam sessions, talk shows, open mic night programs, seminars etc.. Theme and seating arrangements are excellent. Yet to explore the facilities, food and snacks in the ground floor. Been there for 5times, every time the hospitality is awesome.
We hired the backyard for a crochet workshop. The vibe was super laid back that all the participants felt at home . If you are looking to have cozy group event and looking for a college dorm room like vibe this is the perfect spot .
We had a few requests for the elderly people who participated and they made it possible at very short notice . If you are booking on a sunday make sure preorder the refreshments and they do allow using their ground floor hall for events.
Overall we had a memorable experience. Thank you team Backyard
Here to share my incredible experience as a participating brand at Backyard's Night Market. The whole affair was extremely well planned and executed... right from onboarding, to curating the brands/products, to marketing, to setting up spaces to ensuring that everyone was comfortable and having a great time. The hosts were warm and friendly, the space intimate with the arrangement such that all 30 participating brands had good visibility and access. Parking and all other amenities were well taken care of for participants and guests.
The response was overwhelming ... and the quality of the guests particularly worth mentioning. We came back with so much love, support and encouragement and would be glad to go back again! 🤗😊
I dont know about co workspace/coffee kiosk. But we went for a team evening GTG from our workplace. Best homely place if u lookin for a peaceful small team outing . 20-30 will be an ideal strength. Arranging maggi, samosa , tea was very thoughtful. We had a very serene evening. Thanks to Himani and the entire team.
Btw .. Dogs are not allowed.
Good place to host the events, community meet-ups, workshops. Can host 30 members easily and have a pantry kind of set up down to throw party or host a dinner or snacks. Overall it’s good and located in the main city.
This is my favourite place
Beautiful ambience to work and wonderful people.
Loved their service. Loved the filter coffee there and that akka who made coffee is very kind and has a beautiful smile.
Came in to code, but stayed for the vibe. The calm energy, comfy seating, and quiet creative atmosphere helped me focus more than I have in days. Unlimited coffee is a bonus, but the real magic is the space itself.
Grateful I found this place.
Such amazing ambience, lighting and the place has a bohemian theme dressing to it. The plants, the furniture there, everything gives you a pleasant feeling. The prices seem to be reasonable too.
The place is great, surrounded with lots of greenery.
The kind of place where you want to chill and work with a hot tea in hand, which is free makes it even more a cool place to hangout.
You get Free drinks and wifi but you only pay for the time you spent.
Found them to be full and it's a beautiful concept. Good luck to the girls..
Food can be ordered and the price is very nominal but not the taste. Can be improved. Their Goli soda brought fond memories so did the terrace mango tree.
Cool , calm and worked well for me to focus on my tasks and meetings. Its a cozy place suitable for co-working and relaxed ambience to be productive.
I went there for a workshop. So not the place by itself but It's the people you meet there that makes your time worthwhile. ✌🏾 The place is calm and homely.
This place is truly at a backyard. This place offers a peaceful and perfect place for meetings or small gatherings. They offer chai, coffee and snacks included in the package. It's a better option for small meetup about 20 people or so. But they do not have wifi or projectors. Beautiful place in a beautiful part of the city.
This place is good for small gathering of people for birthday.
Not much to talk about. It’s a cozy place to eat.
You need to park your vehicle on road because there is no parking inside.
I had discovered Backyard few months ago and only during my second visit, I felt I should give this review. Backyard is one of the best informal co-working spaces (not-a-cafe space) in Chennai. One can also book the space for events, gatherings, and group activities. This unique space features a spacious layout that accommodates approximately 70 -80 people (taking a guess) across two floors.
The amenities are top-notch, with music, AC, options for seating and free Wi-Fi. One can also order short meals and food that one needs to pay for.
What truly sets Backyard apart is the exceptional hospitality, particularly from Miss Akshaya. She takes food orders seriously, which is very important to me in ensuring a delightful short meal with work experience :)
This workspace is not just about productivity or just working; it's also a fun and creative environment. You'll find riddles here and there, postcards, and letters to write, which will be posted by the Backyard team. There's also a collection of books to read, hand-printed items, cloth-made (crochet) flowers, postcards, small, painted trinkets, and other bric-a-bracs to explore.
During my visit, I even crafted a letter to my friend in New Delhi, which Akshaya kindly offered to post. The workspace, aptly named Backyard, is situated at the rear (backyard) of a beautiful house, complete with stylish lighting, music, and an exceptionally clean washroom. The upstairs area, like I mentioned, also accommodates a good number of people.
The space extends outdoors,
with two wooden cots outside, where you can sit, recline, or simply take in the surroundings. These cots evoke a charming, rural rustic vibe, which is where my colleague and myself made some fun postcards.
The expansive space invites you to take a break during work hours, take a short leisurely stroll, along the long, corridor-like area at the front. Also, strategically located in the heart of Gandhinagar, Backyard is conveniently close to restaurants like Kailash Parbat, the Madhya Kailash Temple, among other amenities.
The culinary experience is exceptional, thanks to the cook, Miss Kavitha, who offers every meal with a big smile. Her hospitality is outstanding, and she prepares mouth-watering meals. Be sure to try the cutlet – it's remarkably crispy. Complimentary coffee, tea, and water are also available.
Overall, my experience at Backyard was amazing. Just a heads-up: there are adorable cats on the premises, but be cautious not to get too lovey-dovey, as they might feel annoyed and might scratch, in retaliation :)
The cafe is good, it’s more like a homely cafe and on the terrace they have a small hall where they conduct events like stand up comedy shows. I visited here to watch a Stand Up comedy of Mr.Annamalai the hall setup is good and seating could have been little better.
Had a great time at Backyard! It's a nice place if you are artistic and want to explore a lot !
A nice cozy coworking space with a space in first floor for craft workshops, discussion space. Well decorated and air conditioned. This ace is suited for small events, exhibits etc. parking would be an issue as it is located in residential space. I went for a workshop along with my daughter and the space is maintained well neat and clean.
We visited this place for a pop-up event. Great place to discover local small businesses. It's a beautifully done space and great for organising events etc. I'm so glad Chennai has one of these!
Network is very slow and if you plan for some team meetings with projections, Projector they have is very low quality
Backyard is wonderful to be at! I have been doing my trial and error to settle in a workplace that suites my “Nomadic” work profile! Backyard just gives me what I want. Enjoying my work time here! Their filter coffee and lemon tea are my favourites! A peaceful place to write, to read, and to work!
Had been to this cozy little place for a birthday party. This is good for small parties and functions, can host 15-20 people.
The host of this facility was friendly too. They make decorations to suit the needs of the guests (ie. special kids).
Amazing place for peaceful work and shoot, with great snacks and amazing people around 🤷🏻😄
There are definitely more cons than pros.
A designated place to work out of with the peace and quiet that you need. However, the wifi was dodgy the day I visited. The price for a full work day is too much for two people. We spent 6 hours there and ended up paying 1700 bucks. working out of a work cafe might be a better option because that money can buy you food atleast.
The best place where in we can sit and work. I have been going there and working from there for like 4 months now. They have different set of packages. They provide free wifi, Coffee, tea etc. And also we can pay and get other dishes in the menu. The different colors used actually helps me to maintain my overall day in a good manner. The hosts are friendly. I cannot stop myself from mentioning about the akka who cooks and serves for us. She is such polite and always treats us with smile. In one word backyard is not just a cafe, it's more like another home :)
It’s got a very interesting vibe and theme. Lots of ample space .
However they do need to do something about the constantly barking canines on the property. It takes away from enjoying the space and from the calmness of the neighborhood. Can’t imagine frequenting it without this fixed.
IT is a small place for 25 to 30 people the place is where much clean .for event like upcoming artist it is the right place
Not really sure they live up to professional standards of a coworking space. Also they charge more than the corporate coworking spaces out there. Besides, I had to request many times for the music playing in there to be lowered owing to calls/meetings. Overall very uncomfortable.
This is a neat and ambient place to work or study. The people here are very courteous and friendly. However, the pricing can be a bit steep, which is my only issue with this place.
Cosy ,comfortable co-working space. Good for small and medium groups.clean and well maintained spaces. Two levels for multiple activities to take place simultaneously. Free coffee and wifi is provided.
Ground and first floor for stalls, Quite short space and no parking available. Either bike or Car gotta park in roadsides.
Nice place for meetup and mini co-working situations
Set amidst greenery at the backyard of one of the old bungalows in Gandhinagar, BackYard is good for small events.
I was in a few times. It is a very good place for a small team meeting. It is not a regular coworking space. Its environment is silent and peaceful. Unlimited tea, coffee, and extra snacks on paid service make a peaceful mind. They also offer short private meetings without others' disturbance.
Also, you can buy art gift articles.
Good communication and nice cutting with lowest price
Went there to see an art exhibition... Nice place to spend free time, but it's a bit too small...
We have been coming here for the past 7+ yrs when our founder from Kerala found this place first and whenever we drop in we always have a lovely time...our work gets effective plus we have a lovely time with chai and snacks which is served with a cute warm smile from kavitha akka....
Thank you backyard
Love from ....
The Ashoka Tree, NGO
Superb place... great for conducting events.. lovely people co-ordinate this place... so kind of them. Many kinds of indoor games are available.. sweet place.
It's a quite good place to hangout for useful productivity. The main aim of this place for idea generation.
We were a part of "the talking market" hosted by backyard as makers there and we are just so glad that we did. You can definitely feel that everyone there are just very happy to provide a space for creators.
It was hosted in the best way possible, we were provided with everything we required and the event was promoted consistently and brilliantly just as promised. People visit the market on time guys, so please come early and set up things 30 min prior so get rid of anxiety. Definitely have to mention the way the movement of people was organised along with rest area outside.
As a co-working space: Its a very cozy place with different kinds of furniture for each of your preferences. The Interior of the place is filled with creative stuff. Very friendly team, just feel free to communicate with them if you are having any issues.
Overall an amazing place to be in. Keep going guys!
The place is awesome co-working place, You can feel the chill and calm atmosphere.
It is really a great to work and conduct events.
Good ambience for meetups amd friends Gathering
