Coffee Uplifts People - CUP Bed-Stuy

Kwabena was super kind and helpful with any of our questions as I could tell he crafted our drinks along with everyone’s before us with care! He even let my sister try a sample of a drink as she was lost on what to order because she doesn’t drink coffee!!
(the drink was amazing I think it was a strawberry lavender lemonade ???)

It was super impressive to see how careful and friendly the customer service was even though it was fairly busy and he was working alone!! Thank you Coffee Uplifts People and Kwabena- as this was our first time in New York from Cleveland, Ohio and we will definitely be stopping back on our next trip! :)

Recommendation from a friend in the Brooklyn area and I would rather support a small business than a corporation (ex:Starbucks) upon entering it was great customers working away on computers so I knew I would do the same once I ordered. It goes downhill here when I noticed there was a hair in my food and while I understand it’s unintentional and accident happen it still has to be noted and it raises concerns in the sanitary department.

Such nice people working here. Great coffee, pastries and their lemonade is so good! Very much enjoyed my experience here & I highly recommend. Again, their staff is so friendly! I come from Chicago where everyone is so rude LOL but here, they were so friendly & inviting. New favorite spot 🤍

Ultimately : a place that consistently under performs and does not value respect

June 21, 2025: Took off another star because staff member outside the coffee shop stopped me when I tried to enter saying there was an event going on. I asked if we could get coffee. He dismissed me stating “I just said an event is going on” and rolled his eyes.
- the consistent ineptitude of the staff here and the abrasive mentality of the workers is astounding.
DO NOT RECOMMEND this place if you value respect and good service.

Too many times where I walk in and am told “we have too many orders so are taking a break from orders now.”

Why go to a coffee place where they cannot handle making coffee and taking orders?

Otherwise decent.

It is generally filled with a few people working or relaxing.

Coffee has been good each time I’ve gone. The toast with almond butter and fruit and honey is better than expected.

This is my new happy place. I love the service, the atmosphere, the accessibility of outlets to plug my laptop and phone charger in while I work and oh yeah, the food and teas are delicious. I can be a bit difficult when it comes to customer service, meaning, I have little patience for nonsense, but thankfully, the folks at Coffee Uplifts People, have been able to keep me "Uplifted" :-)

Since coming here I have even made some good business connections. The management here (gotta mention the GM Laura) has done a good job of making the atmosphere comfortable for people to network and work together. I will continue to come here and recommend the space to everyone I know.

Great space, coffee is good and food is good. A bit pricey, but you pay for the space and the free wifi to do work or whatever.

This is a great coffee shop with huge windows and live plants. I love that they cater to vegetarians. Surprisingly, one reviewer’s criticism is that CUP is a chain that inserted itself in between other black-owned businesses. It’s not a chain, only location and the owners are not only black but also from the neighborhood AND more often than not, working at the cafe themselves! They’re always so sweet when I go in, service is paramount here, unlike Playground where service is meh and they still haven’t brought back food. The concept/branding is simply very professional here. I don’t think a business should be punished for being launched with great concept foresight.

Really beautiful space with pretty good coffee, free wifi, and good vibes if you're looking to get some work done! Baristas are always kind and I love how they are so community-oriented. Only complaint--the food is just okay. That being said, I stop by often with friends and to do work, and they're definitely a Bed-Stuy favorite of mine.

I sit and work for a while so I got avocado toast and it was really good. The staff were super friendly, they brought around samples of their tea and food.

C.U.P. has swiftly become my go to coffee spot! I am a self proclaimed coffee snob and theirs is very well balanced, has a wonderfully nutty aroma and tasting notes of chocolate, berries and a subtle amount of brown sugar. They also have a good variety of teas, baked goods and tapas sized eats to compliment your choice of beverage.

Regardless of how picky you are about your coffee, the real draw here is the absolutely amazing young people working here! Kwa (who affectionately nicknamed me OG), Destiny and the entire crew are such inspirational young kings and queens! They are always so accommodating, professional and create a pleasantly inviting environment that begs to be revisited over and over!

If you haven’t already, I implore you to check them out…I guarantee they’ll win you over as well!

I was at CUP for the book launch of The Quaking of America by Resmaa Menakem. I brought home freshly ground coffee that my wife loved.

The space is open and the owner and staff are extremely welcoming.

I highly recommend stopping in for coffee, pastries, remote working, or to just chill in a spot with a great vibe.

Great laptop friendly cafe

A nice quiet cafe with good wifi.

Great space and loved matcha latte. Especially love the abundance of outlets and the wifi is pretty decent. You get a nice spacious table with a couch got work from there for hours.

Cute place! Yummy food and kind workers. Perfect for working on your laptop, charging ports available, quiet space with low volume background music.
